Finally, the official Futaba FXT thread

Ok,

I had one of these new back in '91 Im not actually sure when they were released officially, I think it was 1990? correct me if I'm wrong.
I remember being extremely impressed by the quality of this truck, and its construction. I absolutely loved mine BITD. Loosely based on the Tamiya stadium blitzer, and the chassis is an obvious take off of an RC10. I think this truck was way ahead of its time from a design standpoint, but it did lack adjustable turnbuckles.

Please feel free to post any other info on these trucks you may have, of course pics are always nice too!

I recently scored one with an unpainted body a few months ago, I have since ditched the fixed turnbuckles and installed adjustable turnbuckles on it, makes a world of difference in the handling department! I added Losi King Pin rear tires and kept the original super gripper fronts. I have not finished the paintjob on the body, so forgive the pics.

It looks like quite a few parts use Tamiya moldings, especially the arms and the shocks (grey CVA-I instead of yellow). Like a Tamiya Astute truck with a tub.

That's because the FXT and FX10 were a joint venture between Tamiya and Futaba. Basically Futaba decided they'd try selling their own R/Cs so they commissioned Tamiya for the job. Why they did it is anyone's guess. It was probably the brainchild of a product manager who thought it was a good idea. I suppose it might have been if they actually produced entirely new vehicles rather than re-configuring already existing ones. I imagine Futaba was testing the waters and didn't want to pay the mega bucks it would have cost to come up with and manufacture an entirely new vehicle from scratch. The design of the FX10 was based off the Striker, and the FXT is best described as a Stadium Blitzer on steroids. The FX10s are really common, and the FXTs are really rare for the most part.

That's a nice example of one you got there. Makes me want to build my NIB one like we were talking about over PM.

Yes, arms shocks, hub carriers, and "fixed" turnbuckles will swap out between a blitzer and the FXT perfectly, everything else is way better quality than the blitzer, such as aluminum tub, fiberglass shock towers, etc..

  I thought the title might have been a nod towards me.

I just cleaned off my work area after 9 months of not being able to use it. Right now I have my Optima Mid project on it but after that I think its going to be the FXT. :)

I've got an FX10T in good condition that I've owned since new ('95). I had been planning on rebuilding it , got some Tamiya Stadium Blitzer wheels for it, but now it just sits...

Was a fun truck back in the day... got some pics, just need a scanner.

I need to post finished pics, these were taken last week. I have since finished tha paint job, looks even better now.

I have seen the FX10 on ebay, thing is, I had one of those BITD, I didnt care for it in the least. I actually did a truck conversion on mine BITD, cant remember if it was home made, or a kit..? I will post pics tonight (circa 1989..?).

I remember the conversion was a terrible performer...lol Looked cool though

Yeah, I was debating building it for a "winter build" like I also mentioned in my PM. I just needed the encouragement.

You mean FXT. I have 2 parts trucks in about that condition. I was hoping to build one from parts before I found my NIB one.

Ok, Heres a finished pic..

The Futaba lettering on the doors is paint, not a decal, I hand cut the letters and shot it in a carbon fiber look.. looks really cool in person.
