What does everyone use for vintage builds?
Is there any difference between the currently available hardware and bearings versus the stuff from 20 years ago?
I don't recall having colored rubber seals nor teflon, but metal shielded bearings from today seem the same as the old ones.
I know some here are much more detail oriented than I am so lets hear it.
Certainly we know that anodized small pattern aluminum locknuts don't belong on period correct builds

I mainly use old bearings and hardware...

I have bunches of steel 4-40 stuff left over from doing the "blue screw revue" back in the day, and recently have been scouring the older hobby shops for the silver aluminum stuff. As far as bearings go, I've actually been de-upgrading some of my shelfers back to bushings...

Shielded bearings would be correct for anything pre 1995 or so, other than the "green" 8-32 screws probably just going with Du Bro or McMaster-Carr would be the way to go for new. Some of the odd sized 8-32 stuff is another story, just ask asso_man...

The 1/8" hex 4-40 gold colored alloy nylock nuts have been around since the RC12LW (used on the T-plate) so actually a period hopup for some of the later kits (ie after 1991...).

I use new stuff. I'm not really a stickler for period correctness. Who's gonna know if you use ceramic bearings in your 6 gear anyways? Whatever keeps the cars together is what I use.
