Hi,

Is a Blue Eagle just an Eagle with different chassis, bellcrank steering, blue shocks and motor plate?

Are there other differences?

yup, and because the trans was different, the blue eagle had a separate rear bulkhead and arm mounts. on the eagle, those parts were integrated in the trans case.

As far as I know, the chassis was the same with the exception of a few trans mounting holes. Also, the shocks were anodized blue, the steering was upgraded to bellcranks (holes added to chassis for bellcranks and shorter steering links), transmission was completely different along with bulkhead, motor plate and motor guard. Aside from that, I'm pretty sure everything else was the same.

Cool, thanks. So the Blue Eagle is a much better truck! I am glad cause I just bought one and it has the Eagle steering but the Blue Eagle rear end. Just got to get me some bellcranks and blue shocks and I am set.

Another question. I know the kickup chassis was done away with for the SRT/Rustler/Slash but are the wheel bases similar? I imagine the slash chassis is longer. Can anyone confirm that the wheel base/hole pattern is the same for the Rustler and SRT?

I am only concerned with the gearbox and suspension mounting. Dont really care about anything in the middle.

What I am getting at in a very round about way is if I can bolt a Blue Eagle onto a SRT/Rustler chassis and be done with it. I already have the SRT front bulkhead, just wondering about the transmission/rear suspension and wheel base.

I would rather go this route than wait months for a Blue Eagle chassis to pop up on feEbay.

the tranny, rear bulkhead (by extension the shock tower etc), and rear arm mount blocks are the same.

the wb is the same on the srt and rusty, as are a number of hole locations throughout though some are exclusive to the older cars because of the tranny/rear bulk layout (compared to the rusty that is). front ends are mostly incompatible between the built in front kick up (eagle series) cars and the srt/rusty

rustler and srt might as well be totally different cars though. the guts of the tranny and the front bulk (and all that comes off of it) are the only real parts that fit between them. you can make an srt upper and lower chassis though and use stand off posts to fill in the plastic bits.

I just got this from a member and in hindsight it may have been an impulse buy. What can I say, I have a soft spot for the hard case.

What I think I have is an Eagle/Blue Eagle/LS/LS2/SRT/Rustler. Its not all doom and gloom though. The gearbox is pretty good and I have a set of LS shocks kicking around. I think it can be a runner for not too much investment. The bad news is the chassis is totally unuseable.

 I almost took that for the white battery cups/battery bar. I think Momo was lookin for them but all I needed was another parts car that would be converted into a project :? . I might have a spare chassis in better shape than that. If not I know I have a spare aluminum bullet chassis that would be a killer runner. Would have to drill a few holes but otherwise be an easy changeover. If you decide to run it hard drop a few lines and we'll see if I can find that stuff. I've changed over the chassis both directions like that and its a chore but makes for a unique look. Good luck with this one.

Do tell!

Super! I'll shoot you a PM later today.

I think those are still available from Traxxas.
If you decide to run it hard
YES! HARD!

all is not lost on that chassis. That is a perfect candidate for something I have wanted to try.

Use this bulkhead:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJH19&P=7

cut the kickup up off right at the bend, and this part attaches to a flat chassis with three screws. You will need to add a top brace or some type of re-inforcement, like nose tubes or turnbuckles.

everything else looks like it can be salvaged pretty well. The nice thing is anything you are missing suspension-wise is easily procured from tower.

I think you are absolutely right. I think this is the perfect candidate for a low budget build. I will bring the chassis to work and lop off the front.

The truck came with the bulkhead you show there. But it was screwed on wrong so I will grab a new one on my next Tower order.

So I made some progress on this. I am going for a low buck build here so I am going to track my costs to see how cheaply I can do it.

First thing I did was chop off the nose as per Joes suggestion and bolted on one of these:

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNMP2&P=7

I covered the chassis with some vinyl CF pattern veneer from the LHS and the bottom with teflon anti chafe tape I stole from work.

Most of the hinge pins were either bent, rusted or the wrong size so I bought a Hawk srew pin set #1739

So far:
Donor truck $50
Front bulkhead $6
Srew pin set $4.50
CF veneer $2

Total: +62.50

Does anyone know if a Blue Eagle LS front tower will bolt to a SRT/Rusty front bulkhead? The BE LS tower has 4 screws but the bulkhead has only 2 holes. Dont know if they will line up.
