Triumph

I picked this up several months ago on ebay for a pretty good price and havent touched it. It seems to be in really good condition with only a few small scratches on the bottom of the chassis. It wont be until next spring that I run this badboy, but I'm wondering if there are any areas or parts of this buggy that are prone to breaking easily? I dont have any spares, so I'd like to start looking for spares now if I have to.

Nice Triumph. I dont have any experience with these but I remember reading that the front shock towers are weak. If you happen upon a front shock tower I would snap it up.

I have not been able to finish the one I got of ebay yet, but it has a broken topdeck. The deck broke right behind the steeringposts. And the topdeck itself is impossible to find for a reasonable price;so you may consider strenthening it rather than look for a spare.
What material is your front shocktower? It seems to have been available in 2 or 3 versions.
Another area that I've picked up complaints on are the suspension arms... and the front bulkhead was broken on mine too; in several places actually.
I plan to add a brace over the hingepins in front of the bulkhead to make sure it'll live longer and have tapped the upper screw holes all the way through to use longer screws.
I'm replacing the suspension arms with HPI arms from some truck. They are softer = less brittle. If you break yours I can sell you my originals ;)

I love this car. I purchased mine NIB for $150 back in 2000 or 2001. I've heard about the same issues regarding broken bulkheads, front shock tower and top plate. One point that can be extrapolated, it uses the same steering knuckles/upright components as the Ultima series. I've broken several of those when I raced my Turbo Ultima. I think they're weak.

I wonder if these use the same parts as the Ultima II (specifically the onroad versions) I know the top deck is different but I wonder if it can be used (same length and mounting holes etc.)

No, not much in common: just the front C-carriers and steering knuckles perhaps, and some steering components maybe too.

The front towers and the front bulkhead are the only parts that I've seen broken. The arms are long and thin...so they'll flex a little bit before breaking. I do remember getting a car with a cracked wheel (close to the bearing).

The spur gear is worth replacing...it's 48 pitch metric. I used a 92 losi spur (blue for the jr series) and it worked with a spacer. I then used the slipper pegs for a traxxas to replace the stock kyosho pads.
