Without doing too much digging, I wanted to get opinions here about what brushless ESC/motor combos work best in the B4.1 and in and possibly an old is new gold pan setup. I really like the idea of sticking with the LRP stuff, but the Tekin or Mamba seem nice too. Looking at running 13.5. Thoughts?

I have been running a Novak Havoc 10.5 in my RC-10 "WOIN". For the price(170) it works great.

stay with lrp, tekin, hobbywing or if you must novak, speed passion makes some nice stuff to, based on hobbywing.

i prefer tekin and hobbywing myself, the castle stuff never impressed me much and i've had too many novak failures to buy one again.
i've seen more castle stuff overheat then anything else combined.

I only have experience with the Castle Mamba Max Pro and Micro Pro myself. Both have been great in hard bashing.

Just picked up a Castle Sidewinder 2 6900Kv system from Tower the other day for less than $80.00. Haven't connected it to anything yet but I think it will be fun.

Ive owned 3 castle products, only problem was a smoked motor after about 50 packs (bearing went in a 4800kv) Ive been happy but also open to expore other system options.

stick with a sensored system for racing. hobbywing, lrp, speedpassions, tekin...and yes novak. i have the new GTB2, its been working flawlessly for me so far, been almost a year. i have a castle MMP, really good speedo, but it has been sent in for repair (broken sensor port) and i have heard many complaints about a poor bec system, and have felt it myself with my current speedo. castle motors are good, i had my 4600 for 2 years and beat on it hard with no issues, but like and idiot sold it in a car. not the best motor for racing though.

I'm curious - why are the Castle motors not great for racing? Out of the ones you mentioned, which are widely considered the best for racing?

The first systems were plagued with problems, something like 90% failure rate. The castle stuff is also early gen sensorless, so they are stupid abrupt as throttle goes. They have improved, but one you get an impression of problems it kinda sticks with you.

LRP SXX (version 2) and Trinity D3 motor (for 17.5/13.5). Otherwise the LRP mods are nice and affordable for the power, and all the Mod motors are the same as there are very little differences between the major brands output and reliability. I avoid no names for racing.

I ran castle MMP speedo's last season with epic D3 based motors and plan on running them again next season.

Are you planning on running a blinky or a ramping class? Either way there is nuances. One thing I have to stress is don't skimp on a battery pack. You can have the best motor and esc money can buy, but if you throw a 30 dollar chinese battery at it then you're really defeating the purpose. I strongly recommend a Thunder Power pack. Their performance and reliability are second to none, their customer service and warranty is also top notch. I've used their warranty three times over the last few years and every time it's been no questions asked, they've sent me a brand new pack, usually upgraded it to the latest and greatest. (my warranty issues were cracked balance wires twice, and I once had a pack that wouldn't balance all the way, it would stay about .09v out.)

What are the major differences in the LRP esc's available now? TC-spec, stock spec, and competition?
