New toy to ring in the New Year.

Heading home from work about a week ago I got caught up in traffic because somebody lost a bunch of nails on Interstate 5. To make matters worse, the engine in my GTO starts squealing and I see some steam come out from under the hood. The radiator was replaced about 2 months ago and I figured this was probably the water pump. This car has been somewhat of a pain in the ass over the years with little nitnoid things and I finally had enough. I pulled off the highway and into a Ford dealership! Took another 2 days to find the car I wanted (though to find a Brembo equipped car of the right color and interior package) but on New Years eve, I drove away in a Candy Red 2012 Mustang GT Premium. It's well equipped with HIDs, the Brembo brakes, 3.73 rear gears, and a back up camera (this thing is so cool!).
New Years Eve
Last Monday after getting it lowered on an Eibach Pro Kit
And Wednesday after tint
Back up cam
No spare tire with the Brembo package; plenty of room for a sub!

Nice choice. I'm guessing the Boss 429 Laguna Seca wasn't on-hand in the black/red color combo you wanted, so you went for the GT?

The GM counterpart is still ( as it's always been ) too big, too much like sitting in a lazyboy with a bag of chips and a 32oz supergulp. I love the motor in the GM, just too much of everything else-
**disclaimer** I do own 2 Fords, a Jeep and a Toyota-

Very nice. I have an '11 GT with the 3.73 gear / Brembo package. Runs 12s right out of the box and I've got 28 mpg on road trips, couldn't ask for more. So far it's been a great car.

Damn, that is really quick out of the box! Had to slick my '90 lx to run mid twelves.

I've gone through quite a few Fords over the years thinking about it. Had a '94 Tbird (4.6), '95 Probe GT, '88 Mustang GT, '92 Ranger, '01 F250, and an '06 F250 (still have this one). After the Fox bodies though, I just didnt care for the Mustang. The '03/4 Cobra was intriguing but I bought an '05 Evo MR instead. Quickly got bored with that and went back a rear engine V8 with the GTO. I absolutely loved the goat and it had 100hp on the Mustang out of the box at the time. I always told my wife that when the Mustang broke 400hp, I'd get one

That has to be one of the best scale looking bodies I have seen.
Nice ride.

If I was going to spend the money, it would have been on the GT500. There was a new '11 at the first dealership I went to that was $49k and if they had the same at the dealer I bought this one at, I probably would have done it but they only had '12s and wanted 65k!

Well look at it this way. Your car would be in the low nines to high eights if you spent what these new cars cost on modding yours. Though you wouldn't be driving it around much on the street or getting 28 miles to the gallon.

No doubt. I'd drive 100 miles to the track on test and tune night with slicks and jack in hatch. Bolt them on and run 12.6's out of a mostly stock LX. Just all the small mods with a 5 speed. The car would get 21 mpg blowing cold a/c all the way home. Although there was less than $7k in that car, the new cars are light years ahead in being a quick and excellent riding daily car.
