Hello does any one have any feed back on the Orion formula pro 12-turn motor? I have a sv2 15-turn motor by orion and am not impressed with its speed, then again it was only a $25 motor. It's for a kyosho tb5 sp2.

I think these "Orion" motors are cheap machine wound stuff based on cheap China teardown. This has nothing to do with the real Orion motors. I have a lot of Orion stock motors what also are machine wound but are based on the real Orion teardowns and these were really good. Sorry to disappoint you maybe.

So let me get this straight, even the "pro formula" motors that sell for about 55-$60 are garbage as well?

Just was looking at their website again. I think there were some changes.
Does your motor look like this?
http://www.teamorion.com/formula-pro-sv2-12x2.html
If not then it´s maybe one of the cheap motors what were not good.
If it´s like in the link or looking like a Core Stock than it´s basically a very good motor as this teardown was a Sagami.
Is it a new motor or used? If it´s one of the good Orion motors and it´s used the problem might be also the brushes or worn collector or if not than the ESC, wrong gearing ....
But one other thing to consider, you don´t have to compare with a brushless powered car. Most brushed motors will look slow comparing with a brushless setup.

No I have a 15-turn sv2 motor non-pro I got off of ebay. I was thinking about buying that exact motor in your link. Should I only trust the official Orion site when purchasing these motors?

I doubt that there are any counterfeit Orion brushed motors about. I think that the motor propably just doesn't live up to your expectations. A 15 turn motor will not be very fast to begin with (compared to a good brushless). But a machine wound version with factory (read mass production) build and tuning will be even slower. This is where the "Magic" of brushed motor tuning comes into play. New brushes, proper springs, timing changes -all will play a role in your motors performance. You will however be stuck with the limitaions provided by the armerature though. IF you want it really fast, learn about motor building and tuning, and replace the arm with a lower wind (providing your speedo can handle it) and you will see the difference. Just be prepared for alot more maintenance, gearing changes, and the purchase of more equipment to maintain the motors. -Good luck. -Jeff

Thanks for the info guys. I guess I got spoiled with this kyosho mega 18x2 turn motor that is in my kyosho ultima pro. It does about 35mph which is satisfying enough for me, for now that is.
