In order to protect and display my personal RC collection, I came up with the following:

- 24 x 36 x 72 Plastic Storage Shelving (5 Shelves)
- Duratrax Pit Stand - Protects tires from flat spots
- Ziploc XL4 Big Bags - Seals out the dust, eliminates scratches and provides UV protection
- Close window shades/blinds to minimize sun UV exposure
- Index Card - Restoration Date, Brand, Model, and upgrade parts list

Now I need a good way to store and display the matching radio's. If you stand them up, they easily fall over.

Has anyone included in their displays the vintage electronics and tools? Would love to hear/see pictures of your ideas?

I use 3 methods for storing cars:
1. Stack them on top of each other, up to maximum of 3 cars.
2. Vertical - they stand on their sides (rims).
3. Combination of 1 & 2 above.

Electronics get dumped in a big IKEA plastic bin.

tires in bags, cars in a pile. Any questions?


I race everything I own, I suppose if I had NIB stuff or rare shelfers it would be different.

my 'collection' right now is being stored a couple different ways.

My workshop is in my basement, so some of the cars that are either just built or waiting to be cleaned and rebuilt are up in the rafters on the center beam.

Secondly, I have a few that are assembled that are sitting in boxes large enough to hold a complete car.

I have a couple sitting on a bench/shelf precariously.

the remaining cars are projects sitting quietly in boxes housing all of the parts to build them un-assembled, bagged and patiently waiting to be built. Part of the reason this is the case is I will have no good place to put them once assembled.

I have a spreadsheet of the projects listing all of the major assembly parts (wheels/trans/chassis/arms, etc) filled out so I can complete the kits by looking and seeing what is missing. Yes, I have a problem.

I get into this vicious cycle that I kind of inventory all the parts and find out I almost have enough to build an entire car. picking up deals ebay or items here that are parts lots, I mix and match to make complete projects. So I keep adding boxes to the pile.

I really need to get better stands. Right now all of my models are held up by small boxes, and square pieces of insulation and foam stacked on top of each other.

I use empty blank CD or DVD cases for display and at the track. A bit redneck I guess, but I've thought about painting the clear plastic on the inside to color co-ordinate with the car it's displaying. They're cheap and plentiful. Especially at my house.

I use cheap DIY shelf's . I have around 6 of them with 4 shelfs in each. I than display the cars on top of a paint can lid to keep them of the wheels & also stops them rolling off. Blinds are drawn to keep the sun out. Fans on in the summer to help control the heat.

To stop any unwanted guest i have a lockable door with key for my hobby room.

Well this way i can just look at my collection and see what i need to get or to do for each model. As i get parts i put it with the model to i i'm ready to start working on them.

I bought a bunch of cheap ziploc disposable food containers about the size of a rc monster truck tire, tossed the lids, painted them black with Krylon Fusion and turned upside down they hold my cars off their tires perfectly. With paint I think I have less than 10 bucks invested and I have 26 cars supported this way.
