Just wondering what the pros cons are, differences between the original and re release?

I really want one but need to know about what I should look for in a used one.

I don't know all of the differences, but I would target a re-release if you plan on running it. I know the chassis and the bumper is a different color. Although the original was sold with a black bumper, the most common color was grey.

I have more than you can shake a stick at. There are several differences between the original and re-re but they are so minor that it really doesn't matter. Since the re-release the price of originals have come at down. So you could either splurge and buy a new re- re or buy a used one and use re-re parts to fix it. If you plan to run it, buy a couple of body sets now because you will need them later.

They don't drive well. You can't do crazy jumps with them either. They however are very fun to run in a scale manner.

At least someone acknowledges it! I always felt that it was looked at kind of heretic to say the SRB is the poorest handling RC, ever... The very fact that an SRB lover like Jim says the above is a bit of a relief

They sure do look fantastic, though, regardless of the body type! (RR, F150, SS, SC)

I´ve got one, which I´m trying to race prep with coil over oil shocks replacing the torsion setup it was born with. Next step is a ball differential. Mine is a mixture of old and re-re. The re-re front suspension arms are stronger than the original, so I quickly gave up the search for vintage ones when mine was defective. As Shodog writes, it´s no wild racecar but to see those sand paddles lift a stream of sand, allways makes me smile.

My first "real" rc was a SRB, a second hand Super Champ. I fixed it up and was so proud of it until I hit the track. I was so embarrassed by it that I shelved it and bought an rc10. I wish I had that beast back, but I at least was able to replace it with a new partially built one a few months ago.

Raced my re-release at the 2011 VONATS with an old Futaba attack radio. When the car was not glitching it was a blast to run around the track. A couple others raced SRBs so it was fun to watch them out on the track again.

If you do end up running it, make sure to get an aluminum chassis. The stock one flexes which will break the body near the mounts on big jumps.

on sand they behave a little better because the surface is soft. plus it's more realistic to run them on a suface like that.

they are fun, but their limitations have kept me from reliving my youth on them.

Thanks guys! I was looking at buying one from another member here and I really WANT to buy it but funds are limiting me at the moment. I was thinking of giving up a graphite chassis RC10 as a way to fund this purchase. We'll see.

I think they run great. Do they handle like a B4? Of course not. But if you know how to drive, you'll be fine. I raced my Scorcher at the last vonats and I can honestly say it was some of the most fun I've ever had in r/c. Ever. As far as racing/jumping/running hard, etc, I'd say before getting an aluminum chassis, get a lexan body. It will save a little weight and take much more of a beating. It certainly isn't going to get damaged due to chassis flex. You will roll your Sand Scorcher if you do anything but drive it gently, so again lexan is a plus for that. I think the flex of the stock fiberglass chassis is good for soaking up the rough stuff, I wouldn't want too stiff a chassis on an srb because the suspension isn't very smooth at all. All said, go get one! They are a total blast. And they look cool to boot.

You know after looking at the pics around the net and stuff, I really want to get back to building something for myself from scratch and this is something I really have wanted for a long time. I found a build video series on YouTube that a guy made custom mounted led headlights and tail lights.

Very very cool

They do make for cool scale runners. I love the ones people have modified with styrene to make interiors and under body panels
