I think I'll keep her (RC10T)

I've had this RC10T awhile but I wasn't sure I was going to keep it. I think I only told one other person here I had it.

It turned out to need a lot more work than the auction photos let on (I paid too much). And I was concentrating on getting my pancar together and ready to run. I was about ready to cut my losses and unload it cheap.

But over time it grew on me, and I started budgeting it into my plans.

As it sits now, I've changed the receiver, the steering servo, the ESC, the motor, and the tires.

Not to mention all the stripped or missing screws and lost E-clips.

And the body is trashed, cracked all over. It's going away when I get a replacement.

This is how it looked when I bought it (auction photos):

And here is hot it looks now:

The Hitec transmitter and receiver glitched with me when I first ran the truck. A lot. So the first thing I did was swap out a Futaba receiver and program the truck into the memory of my Futaba transmitter. Funny thing is, I traded that radio off to one of my friends and they have used it on their car and it hasn't glitched at all.

The steering servo is a new Futaba, the original Hitec worked but had been run with a servo horn that slipped and the splines on the shaft were just about slick.

The Orion 13x2 motor and Novak ESC were both great. But there was no reverse (good for racing but not much fun out in the wild) and I wanted the motor for my car. I found a used HPI ESC/motor combo (seller switched to brushless) on eBay so I swapped out both.

The tires are new. Auction said they were take-offs from a T4, but they fit this truck perfectly.

And so, now that introductions have been made, I think I'll keep her.

And I'm happy, or at least I was until I broke a ball end on today's run . . .

Oh well.

they will wear on you til the point where you just can't get rid of them

Am I seeing an optical illusion or is your pan got a 'banana drop' to it? I have one that I used to run that dropped real bad...but it was one of the best dam handling trucks I ever had :D

All the major chassis parts are gray. Smaller parts like the ball cups and the servo saver are white, and the tranny case is white.
If you look at the battery cup, you can see the contrast. The strap is white, the cup is gray like the arms.

No, you aren't seeing things, it droops pretty bad . . .

I have the equipment where I work, I'm 99% sure I could correct this and you could never tell it was done.
I'm just not sure I want to take that 1% risk (stuff happens).

A lot will depend on how it looks with a new body.

Yowser! She has the droops alright. When I swapped out chassis for the one I used to terrorize it just didn't drive the same so I swapped it back. Quite a few years later I found something I just had to have and it got sold...Gotta quit doing that :|

well worth keeping though. I've replaced that truck many times over and never got the same 'feel' as I did with banana bend. Got a local who has one here that says it came like that...but then again he has had this truck since new and still has all the white parts so I'm not gonna argue with him. He's doing something right 8)

I think I will straighten the chassis. Or at least take some of the droop out.

I got out and played around with it earlier today, with the new 8.4 battery that I bought for my pancar.
I had been using some pretty anemic 7.2 volt packs. One good but old, the other new but cheap.

Lots more runtime, but keeping the rear end behind me was a chore with the added power! I was running on asphalt with a thick layer of powdery sand over it so traction was joke.

But the donuts were awesome. The kids in the duplex down from me thought it was so cool how I could make the truck completely disappear in a big could of dust, spinning in a tight circle!

Posted these in 'The Paint Shop' but thought I should add them here.

I did straighten the chassis somewhat. It's not perfect but it looks a lot better.

Upgraded to a waterproof ESC, although I never had any problems with this one (it will go on one of the pan cars).
Had to fabricated a simple bracket for the front body post, I will get a pic of that.
I also added a gear cover, there was not one on the truck when I bought it.

That's the McAllister #240 Modified Coupe body.

Those flames are decals I got off the clearance rack at Advance Auto Parts.
50¢ for a sheet with four flames, they had two left. I used six of the eight flames so I have 75¢ worth of flames on the body.

Thanks.

Promised a photo of my front body mount. Snapped this one when I came in from a spin in the dirt earlier.

I replaced all the ball cups on the front end this morning because I had one that popped off three times Saturday night. They were really old (probably original) and loose. I also replaced a pair of turnbuckles because one of them was bent. Took it out for a test run to make sure it was good to go.

The rear had already been done some time back. I changed the cups when I replaced a broken ball stud.

The bracket is nothing fancy, just a bent 1/2" x 1/16" aluminum flat that attaches to the chassis using some slightly longer nose tube screws. The "body post" is a 1/4-20 nylon flathead screw and a nylon nut from Lowes. Drilled for a 4-40 screw to attach it to the bracket, and a body clip.

I may swap out for a short black body post eventually, just for looks, but it works fine as it is.

I do plan to paint the aluminum black so it doesn't stand out so much.
