He desrcibed the original AC Bristol upon which the Cobra was based as having been "Built under a bridge by winos."

I agree with all the comments thus far, his contributions to the automotive industry are legendary.
This effort however....not so much.

Those were dark times for the auto industry.
The boxy Mustang was
crap in early to mid 80's and apparently Shelby & Ford weren't exactly on good terms..
Most Ford fans would rather forget the defection to Mopar.
(Maybe Iacocca had something to do with it,)
Remember the convertible Dakota?...(*Bleccch)..uglier than Proline's "Bulldog" bodies..
I'd bet not even the Mopar crowd was too fond of those...
Thankfully, Ford made the Mustang actually
look like a Mustang again in 2005..and worthy of a second chance w/Shelby.
I think he left us on a high note with the best Shelby blessed Mustang ever. The 2013 has 650hp right out of the box.

The man was a true prodigy and a ledgend. Most of my dream cars have his name on them. The automotive industry was changed forever by him. The man who took a British town comuter roadster and built the beast that became the AC Cobra and then turned around and took Ford's secritary car and built a race champion in the GT350 and GT500 a man the likes that this world may never see again. He is probably doing doughnuts in a 289 cobra in the after life.
