the return of an old friend

I had to send my HPI RS4 Rally back in our container from Afganistan. I have been worried because my company got back in november but our conex took a while. I just got my tuff box today the first thing I looked for is my good old "Jolly Roger". I know the RS4 is not a vintage car but I have owned it since 2000 and built the NIB kit back when it was still a Subaru Imprezza. It has been wearing a 90's f150 stadium truck body for most of its life that I originally ran on my Kyosho tracker after converting it to a stadium truck.
The car is beat all to heck and still coated in afgani dirt it needs both drivebelts and 2 new dog bones. I ran the snot out of it! I will be tearing it down cleaning it up and rebuilding it. Kinda funny though it almost looks like a prototype short course truck only narower. Now for the pics of this battle hardened vet.

Thanks for your service. I'm glad you were able to have a little fun with RC in a place like that.

I remember reading a story about a father who sent his son, who was serving, a Traxxas truck with a camera on it. Well the truck found an IED. No one was injured and the dad promptly sent him another one. Really cool that an RC truck can save lives.

Neat story. I may even have read it on this forum.

I am glad you and your RS4 made it back intact.

You certainly did read it here, links to that story--and a YouTube vid too, if I recall correctly--were posted here at least twice over the past year or two. ;)

Thank you all for your support. It is for people like ya'll that make my service rewarding. Sadly time for this old soldier in the service is ending sometime in the next year or so. I am worn down and have too many mental scars now. I maybe only 35 but 10 years serving comes at a cost. Enough about that depressing crap. SRTracer121. Yeah I'm stuck in brushed hell at the moment and I could us some brushes. The rally won't run till I at least get a rear drive belt the original is still on it from 2001 and just wore out my last month in afganiland. Not planning on selling it I have had it too long and it has sentimental value in the chassis and the body. That was my very first fade and it turned out great I will clean up the body and take some more pics. This has always been one of my favorite rc's.

They are laydown. I don't remember hardness or silver content. That motor is one of the trinity speed gems. I will check on it. If I remember I kinda stuck with middle of the road brushes

Huge thanks to you and your fellow soldiers for keeping us back in the states Safe.

Nice to see others are a fan of the RS4 Rally like I am.

I dusted mine off a few weeks ago and brought her out to the local track at the request of a friend I used to race with back in the Hay Day. What an Awesome car. I had several people come and ask what it was after i drove it around the track. My friend wants to bring back the Rally class back and with the new Tamiya Rally car coming out around July, it should make things interesting.

I had one of those too that I sold, and also regret. HPI made some cool cars back then.

So I pulled the esc and motor today to use in my Rus'buggy. It is a speed gems 2 onix. 14t double. The esc is an old teken speed star. The onix seems a lot faster than the kyosho atom smasher that I was running in the buggy. Starting full teardown of the Jolly Roger and full rebuild. I will post the rebuild in the other makes section. Oh by the way I know a guy that has a rs4mt here locally that's up for sale if any one is interested. It needs both rear dogbones.
MOmo I like yours its a lot cleaner than mine.
