So, I've been eyeballing these for a couple months and finally pulled the trigger tonight.

Sensored or Sensorless (I have a pair of spare 17.5's and my little 380 that could use a better speedo), rebadged Hobby Wing controllers, with USB port included.

2 shipped (free USA shipping) under $106, they have a 120 amp version for just $5 more per speedo.

I havent really found a bad review, but then again, I wasnt really looking for bad news, just real reviews of the HW stuff.

Once they arrive, I will set one up in non timing mode for 17.5 (in a Short Course truck) and one in the JRX with the 380 motor and report back how they work and "feel" on the track.

Two of my friends bought the Hobby Wing brushless ESC's, not sure of the amp rating, last summer for their Axial crawlers. They both had nothing but problems with them and switched to Tekin and Traxxas...haven't had any problems since. The ESC's would get extremely hot with one fan on them and two fans on the motors using conservative gearing. They would also glitch, lose power, and reset the settings for no reason.

I hope you have better luck with the ones you purchased.

I have even raced with them with no problems. I gues for rock crawlers it's totally different. At that crawl a sensored ESC would be better.

Your friend either had a bad batch or did sthing wrong... I've had about 6 or 7 HW systems the past few years (from entry-level ezrun 35A to full-blown Xerun V2.1's, won races with them, currently running an SCT in my MBX6Eco and actually winning races with it...) and I've both bashed them and race them to death... and never had a single problem... ever... to me HW is one of the key drivers for Electric regaining momentum against nitro the past few years...

Stuff happens to any gear, but having many pbs with HW is stunning

Keep us posted on how they run. I've been looking at different options for ESCs as well.

I recently swapped my SP ESC for a HW 120A to pair with my 17.5 peak motor and I am quite happy. Only got a practice day in with it, but several folks who drove it said that it was MUCH better than my previous SP ESC.

IMO its so hard with all the Clone options out there and knowing what to choose. I want to save a little $$ but don't want to buy crap either. I'm trying to figure out an 8th scale ESC system and the HW one is looking pretty good.

I can wholeheartedly recommend the SCTPRO 120A - best 8th scale ESC one can buy below $100

they are on the road now, Oklahoma to Cali, Priority Mail, so Saturday/Tuesday is my guess, with the Monday holiday it could mess things up though.

I have a sensorless 25amp HW in my son's crawler hooked to a Tacon 3600 kv motor. We easily put 4-5 hours on it each session we have never had any glitch/settings/heating issues at all. One of the factors I took into consideration when pulling the trigger.

My understanding is the V2.1 software (not sure if that is Speed Passion or HW) can be loaded onto these speedos.

I will definitely keep everyone in the loop. I picked the 80 amp version for the size, it "looks" smaller than the 120 amp, and the fastest motor I use any more is a 10.5 - old reflexes and bad eyes prevent anything faster than that.

I went back and checked, the dimensions are identical between the 2 only difference is the number of FETs...sheesh...

Yeah, back when brushless first came out I remember sensored was meant for low speed driving, and sensorless was meant for high speed driving and what was exclusive to planes at the time. It wasn't until later after the sensored kits were out for a while did they come out with sensorless kits for land based vehicles. Don't they even now have esc/motor combos that are sensored at low speed and then become sensorless at high speed?

I've had one of his last round of 120A's in one of my RC10's for a few weeks although I've only had it out a few times. Ran one 3000mah 2S pack through a tacon ~3900kv with it and it's been solid, then a bit of playing with a little 3s pack and it woke way up. I'm anxiously waiting for their "mid summer" release of a 6S capable ESC as I'm moving more into gonzo power/ 1/8th and bigger toys.

So thats why I have such a hard time finding good motorplates! how is it in transitions and low throttle applications?
