Just got this vintage 1/12th car in this day. I couldn´t believe a car like this was for sale but now it´s here supporting my SP12.

How many of the corally cars do you have now?

Beside this PK Corally I also have the SP12 what you may know from my building thread and another car with aluminium chassis a SP2. Both the SP2 and the PK will need a complete restoring as all of my other Corally cars. These are a SP12G2 and a SP12M both using a graphite chassis.
For the guys who don´t know this PK Corally, it was the very first Corally car introduced by PK a model shop from the Netherlands. It seems this PK was used outdoors as the chassis is showing signs of wear and the graphite t-bar is very used and actually need replacing. Anyway this car is super rare and I hope I can find a spare t-bar some day. I have some new t-bars for the SP12 car (maybe also for SP2) but unfortunately can´t be used for the PK.

And the shop still exists:

Interesting (& rare) car!
I believe Constant Paul (founder of Corally) used to work at the PK Racing shop & hence through the shop developed & sold the PK/Corally cars. The shop (& track) is still very close to the Corally factory & the two businesses continue a close relationship.
Its nice to see that the new HMX touring car sees a return to the use of red anodised aluminium parts that were such a distinctive feature of these early on-road cars
Can anyone confirm that the name Corally came from these red
Coral coloured parts - or have I just made that up in my head??

Yes the name Corally came from the Coral material indeed, but not from the colour. Coral being a hardened aluminium.
PK also comes from the names of the two founders one being either Constant Paul or his father. The other guy I don´t know but something with K.

Really nice find this "original" stick pack Corally.
Yes, the name Corally comes from this "special aircraft" aluminium CORe ALLoY = CORALLY, where the surfaces are hard aluminium and the centre is something more softer stuff. Maybe those harder surfaces just comes from manufacturing process when the material is pressed and the density becomes higher.

Seeing it directly on that rough surface is making me wince a bit.

Nice find! I am a fan of the Corally cars. I actually own a sp10 in rather good condition. I have been wanting a 12 but I was lucky enough to find a sp10 around here.
