Here's my attempt at an RC10L fiberglass box art restoration. I started tonight by laying everything out and taking inventory. It looks like I have everything for the build except the body, the correct esc, batteries and of course, a drivers figure. After tearing the car down completely, I bathed the dirty parts in simple green and scrubbed away the 18+ years of grime. I'll be giving all the white parts the peroxide treatment within the next few days while I'm waiting for my wet sanding paper, buffer wheel and polish to arrive. Does anybody know which electrics are in the box art car? I have a box but I can't quite tell what they are.

Thanks, I've been really anxious to start this build. I've had this car in pieces for two years now while other projects were getting finished. I took a few pics of the box and when I looked at them, I figured out a few of the pieces needed. The receiver is a Futaba FP-R4H AM. The batteries are yellow Sanyos but I can't tell what size/capacity they are. I assume the servo is either a Futaba SP-128 or SP-148 which were common at the time. The esc is a Novak T-1X and the motor is an associated with a green label on it. Can anyone help me finish identifying them? Here's a few pics of the box.

The batteries are Sanyo 1700 SCE.

The motor is most likely a Reedy blue/green/gold/etc dot.

No, I'm the one who's stupid lol. I just realized the box I'm looking at is a graphite chassis car. Are there any pictures of the fiberglass chassis car and what electrics were used in it? Or, did they not ever have a picture of the fiberglass car? I've been searching and can't find one anywhere.

speaking of, with that front end you might want to do a box art LS. I don't think there was a box specifically for the FG chassis.

I was affraid of that. I will never find/afford the graphite parts to do a true LS build. Not to mention those batteries. Plus, I've already bought all the fiberglass parts minus the nerf wings. I could only find the graphite ones. What do you guys think I should do? Should I try to find the 10L box electrics or the 10LS stuff? Either way, I think I'll use the fiberglass parts I already have.

I would just build a cool period shelfer, I don't think I'd get too hung up on the "box art" aspect of it, unless you can do it 100%. These old 235mm pan cars are really awesome to have in a collection, so just build it "cool". I love my 10L2.5 way more than I thought I would, standing still I think it's the best looking car in my collection.

So I'm going to try and make some progress on this build today. I've already cleaned up most of the parts and all the white goodies are in their peroxide bath as I type. I have all the metal parts together, ready for a buff and polish, and I'm getting ready to wet sand and polish all the fiberglass pieces. I've never wet sanded before but I'm going to start with the old top plate since I already have one NIB. That way I won't screw too much up while I learn. I also picked up a set of counter sink bits to clean up all the drill holes. Here's a pic.

Well, I went crazy on the car the last few days and I'm almost finished with the mock up. I still have to wire up the motor, drill the mounting holes for the servo, buy a Novak T-1X, a Tx, a body, a drivers figure, and batteries for it. I'm also wanting to sand down the chassis a bit more to get out a few more of the deep scratches and I'm also going to peroxide the bulkhead again. It came out pretty good though. More to come!

What's with the antenna shape - trying to reproduce one of those old roof-mounted tv antennas?

Thanks! It's a vintage TRC low profile antenna tube. I had one NIB so I figured I'd use it. Since this will be a box art car, I was trying to keep it as real looking as possible. Unfortunately, I think it's going to interfere with the drivers figure.

If you're going to use an Associated Nissan body it probably won't fit under the body. I'm not sure how they hid the antenna on the box-art car.

to bad you couldnt find a chassis without those extra drill holes. Are you going to use them for anything? great build though. cant wait to see the end result!

if you want a chassis without those extra holes i might possibly be willing to let go of this.

but its a big maybe lol
