The "steering wheel" is just a railed slip proof serving tray V3.1

FOFF -
Main rails are 10mm alu rods. The "windshield" and roof is 8mm alu rod.
Axles, good and wide, are HPI wheely King.
Tyres are HPI and the rims are RPM Claw.

At the moment I´m trying to find a decent tranny and a set of long shafts.
I´m hoping for some high wheel rotation so I guess I´ll have to find some quality parts.

Did anyone do a willie's jeep crawler yet? For some reason a willie's jeep body was the first thing that came to my mind seeing your creation sofar

I´ve had plans to do a WWII based on a Losi mini Rock Crawler with a TCS chassis.
The Tamiya WW body is very short wheel based so even a stock mini Crawler is too long.
The TCS chassis makes it even longer, so I guess I´ll have to find another Willy´s jeep body.

Maybe you could trim and bend some thin alu sheets to compose a willie's jeep body to size?
You could use pop rivets to hold them together and thiny screws to fix them to the rails.
I think it was RCEH10 who did a scorpion custom body like that.

Yes a scratch built Willy body in alloy is on my wish-to-do-list. I think I´ll TIG spot weld it instead of blind rivets - But I´m not sure which alloy type to use. I tried bending some of the soft stuff I had laying around and it allmost snapped when it reached a 90 degrees bend.

As for the FOFF, I´m only planning to do lowcut doorpanels, a small jeep grill in the front and some hokus pokus at the back. I hope it´s going to do a lot of tumbling - I don´t think a body with fenders sticking out will hold.

Either your material has been anodised, is too thick, or you're trying to bend it with too small a radius.
I think you'll see the willy's body has very big radius bends: just 'cause the real thing had to be easy to make with simple machinery.

I think the alloy will have to be anodiazed or some kind of aircraft compound to be strong enough to hold the bend when flipped over or crashed.

I´ve just used my wise for the bending so it has been 90 degrees over a sharp point.

I´ll have to round a piece of angle bar and try again.

I'm liking the simplicity of this build, and along with it's design looks like a pretty good FOFF rig

FOFF stands for Formula Offroad, which is a race where you drive up steep sandy hills. It's got so popular people started building RCs that are similar.

Yes, simple is a good description. It´s simple in a way that makes it hard to find the right shape of the door panels. I´ve done three attempts by now and I can´t seem to match the rest of the cage. So I think I´ll have to mount a crossbar instead.

Regarding the tie wraps (strips) - These can be seen at the three first pictures. A total of four is used - Two to hold the rear dampers and two to hold the "windscreen"

Update with Jeep inspired grille and crossbar.
