Ok so I guess this post is partially a warning to never get overly excited with an ePay listing and mash the Buy It Now button without taking a really good look first at what you are buying first

This part-icular Yok came up a couple weeks ago and I couldnt hit the button quick enough after seeing the arms on the car but honestly you have to wonder if that is what the original owner thought would happen.

The arms are Pavidis and appear to actually be in great shape but it goes sharply downhill from there.

Team Suzuki motor mount (I think), YR4-M2 lower chassis, 3 front wheels and one rear wheel (groan), MX4 shock towers...and I dont know what else, let me know if you see anything else I should know about lol...

Arrrgghhh, my eyes, my eyes, somebody please kill it lol. Well, i guess you could "part" it back out, keep the arms and get your cash back, hopefully it wasnt a spendy button you pushed?

I think it still has potential. Looks like there are some aluminum upgrades. Would it be worth it to buy the correct chassis and build the car?

it's funny that you bought this. i was thinking of doing this myself last week. with different arms and other pieces. i wonder how yours drives.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses! Thankfully it wasnt a disaster financially and the arms and shock towers along with two front rims are going to other projects

I was actually thinking of converting a YR4 into an offroad car in the past after owning a 91' so this might just be the time the time to try that little experiment out. Comparing it next to my 94' it does seem to be about a half an inch shorter in length.

Think I will start with the YR4 chassis, the front and rear diff's, houses and plastics and see where this takes me...pictures coming shortly!

p.s. suggestions always welcome..most decent parts that are transferable will go to other Yoks so this will be the 'leftovers' project

p.p.s going straight to shocks, as original yoks appear to be difficult to find what do you guys recommend as replacements? older losi shocks?

the typical replacement was associated shocks, so that's always an option.

Well I just tore the whole thing down and wow it just got worse and worse...shock towers were bent and shaved down, two rear black diff covers were on it, one front wishbone is possibly a losi or kyosho unit, bent screws, busted bearings, front diff had multiple bearings on it to fit correctly (its the first picture below, the one to the left, it appears longer and narrower than what I am use to, any ideas?) ugggg almost like this mutant was put together like this on purpose...

...HOWEVER, lets take out the positives from this experience, the more I look at the pictures, the more it screams...'save me and build a 91' Dogfighter!!!!' so that's just what I am going to attempt to do...so who wants to sell me a chassis? lol

Ok, thrust me on this: keep that money in your pocket and use the chassis you have. It's a lot better than the hot dog chassis and will give you the same wheel to wheel dimensions. The hotdog chassis is too narrow for the stick pack you're supposed to use, won't take saddle packs, and is GP10 (glassfiber instead of carbon fibre).

Sounds like a plan too me and I definitely saw what you meant after looking up the hotdog chassis with the Associated like battery cups on either side...don't think I could forgive myself putting a saddle pack into a Yok lol

Well I finished the complete tear down and set upon cleaning up the rear diff housing. I took an SOS pad to it (I seem to recall doing this before but guess I'll know soon enough if was a good idea or not if it starts rusting/etc.) Actually came out pretty good in my opinion, see pics below. Looks like I will have to start sourcing a front diff assembly (there is one on ePay that I might snag although a little on the expensive side) and some arms but overall excited to keep the momentum going.

A little more cleaning and some more assembly this weekend....

Could you raise those frames and use them as Li-po cradle?

I wouldnt think so since the chassis is the part with the big rectangular hole in it and the battery trays are the part with the slotts for the cells, and are adjustable for weight distribution on this chassis.

I wasn't able to get to my local hobby store to check out Lipo pack sizes for measurements but it is an really interesting idea

Well this is about as far as I can get this weekend before hitting up forums and ebay for additional pieces but this has been alot of fun so far

Nice project! I have a similar YR4 that is missing some parts and looking at yours is tempting me to convert it to an off-roader. Keep the ideas flowing!!!
