Are nose tubes just a PITA for me and me alone?

Are nose tubes just a PITA for me and me alone? I mean, this is the second Team Truck that I work on, the nose plate in one case was new in the other case barely used, neither looked bent, chassis had barely a mark on them, but both cars required some significant effort on the plate during assembly to get the nose tubes holes to line up with the holes in the chassis sides... am I doing sthing wrong or what???

Cheers,
Paul

I've always had that issue with the buggies and trucks, I usually just thread the chassis sides in first, then start the threads on the nose and slowly tighten the chassis mounts and then the nose- I guess its just aluminum torque from chassis and nose from heat treating?

how straight is the chassis? and does the nose plate look ok? sometimes a bent, up or down, nose plate could make things a pain in the ass. i've never had an issue with putting a truck together, when it came to putting the nose tubes on. they always lined up.

all the ones I've seen are just like you describe. I do what Reg does, side screws first, then front screws, get them all started(the sides you can almost tighten all the way initially) then draw everything down tight. that part of the design really isn't 'perfect', especially on the buggy, the nose tubes really pull down on the front plate. The nose tubes really want to bolt to the chassis much higher than where the holes really are, ie, the sides should be taller.

Sometimes i switch the tubes over and leave the front screws loose the attach the sides then titghten the front screws no other problems since use thus method unless come across tweaked parts.DON

same here too. glad to see others are having the same issue. it's just a design flaw, but good to know it's not just me and i'm not doing anything wrong.

thanks all for pitching in - I feel reassured now, I was indeed worried *I* was the problem ;)

Maybe the "tension" in the system is put in on purpose, to make the front end more solid... like pre-tensioned concrete for construction...

anyways - not a surprise to me any more now :)

thanks all!
