How do i remove the chrome from traxxas pede/rustler wheels? They are new but chrome is disappearing off them as they sit and want to use them with proline front wheels on my rc10 scorcher project to put sandpaddle tires on them.Don

I've known a couple of girls that could suck the chrome off a trailer hitch, but unfortunately I had to leave them behind when I got married. Sorry I can't be of more assistance Don.

Actually, I think soaking them in Acetone or some such chemical will eat the chrome paint without damaging the wheel. I may have that chemical wrong though so you may want to wait for someone with better info.

no idea, but does brake fluid work on "platichrome" like it does on paint?

couple of things work as far as I know. On bullet wheels, I used acetone and it removed it pretty well, but it was kinda stubborn. Something like easy off should also work if the plating is aluminum.

I'd try acetone first on a small spot on the back of the wheel, then maybe the easy off.

I have heard that simply running them through a cycle or two in the dishwasher will do it - but I haven't gotten brave enough to try it yet.

you can try to soak them in Purple Power degreaser, seems to be gentle on the plastic.

As long as the wheels are nylon, Easy-Off oven cleaner should remove the chrome. It needs to soak for a while but should come right off with a toothbrush. Make sure the wheels are nylon, because if they're plastic, the chemicals might attack it.

Ive had them forever so no telling what started the chrome disappearing lol.I will try those and see where it goes tomorrow.Thanks DON

I remove chrome from plastic by soaking in Simple Green. Always works for me.

I would suggest you take them somewhere and get em sandblasted but Sand blast but it took so much time, powder coat is heat dropped and not easy to put it off.As for chrome there is nothing to say it drops anything,chrome is painted and has nothing to do with the wheel durability ,nor does chrome. Keep try continue because its difficult not impossible. Maybe you found any ideas to take it off.

I think the chrome he is refering to is the "chrome" on plastic, not chrome on steel.

Interestingly, most people usually ask how to get a chrome finish on parts, rather than remove it

Chrome on steel is a chemical process, not just painted on. To remove chrome from steel, it needs to be chemically removed as well. Any chrome plating outfit can remove old chrome by dipping it in a chemical tank. Chrome plating on plastic is much more easily removed, certainly no sand-blasting is needed.

I think i remember someone saying liquid plumber removed plastic chrome.DON
