Bormac's Kyosho JAVELIN

It's been a very long time since I owned a Javelin caged car and I was about due for another.
Yep, I picked this jem up off eBay and while it looks a little dusty the extra picks the seller sent me show this car to be in quite good condition. Apparently the cage has no cuts or rash of any kind. It already has a belt conversion done plus a few Option House upgrades too. Also comes with the orange nerf bars and a driver figure too.

I have 3 other Optima's currently and this will make the fourth. I hope to tear it down, clean it up, polish all the alloy and make a few subtle changes. can't wait.

My first 1/10th car was the Optima. Over time this car saw a few changes but I always wanted a Javelin cage. It was orange when I purchased it but for some silly reason I wanted it to be green. It wasn't long before I hand painted it with this tacky Kermit the Frog green- LOL! I won't be doing the same this time.

This pic is straight from the 1980's.

Sadly I haven't had a great deal of time for R/C of late so this Jav has taken me longer than my usual build.

After polishing up all the alloy I set about rebuilding this car. The previous owner told me it was like new but it was far from it. Most of the bearings were seized, the alloy final pinion was chewed up and other parts needed replacing.

This car started out as a Turbo Optima and had the Javelin cage added after so the cage itself is in nice condition. I did my best to polish the marks out of the roof and essentialy I am happy with the finish.

A hardened final pinion, belt drive conversion, 48dp spur set and a few other items make up the driveline and a full set of uni's soon to be added. The lexan wing will also be replaced with a Pargu alloy item also.

Thanks must go out to my friend Rob for the new suspension arms, new screw kit and the Le Mans 480 Gold motor.

Looks the goods, I have a couple myself. One day I'll get around the buying the alloy Pargu wing but with the squarer sides, I don't like the pointed ones.

Nice Jason :D

I have been looking for a used cage for a runner for a long time now, I have everything else… And I’m not willing to pay $100-200 for beaten-up cage.

Ended up wining that javelin on ebay, probably spent to much but comes with some spares and motors. Looks like its just missing one of the orange nerf bars, Been looking for one these for ages, Can't wait till I get it.

Still yet to decide on the electrics. It's definately not going to be brushless but I might go with a short lipo pack. This will mean I am going to need a lipo cut off esc or smart stop.

No 2.2" wheels neither. I'm sticking with Option House rims and tyre combo. Which exact tyre I am yet to work out.

All said and done I paid just under $400 shipped for mine and it was not mint. I have seen these cars go over $600 and $700 for the orange cage and a lot more for the yellow.

You only live once though

Ended up wining it for $280, so probably not too bad.

Thanks, I'll post a restore thread for it when I get a chance.

If I get it to look almost as good as Jason's I will be happy.
