Okay, I am not good with an exacto and tape and have tried applying liquid mask but am not confident that will come out great either. I have an rc10 b3 and am very reluctant to try my hand at masking the windows as I know it will come out like crap. I ordered a body from tower as it said it came with a window mask no such luck . Does any one know if the window masks from the Thunder tiger version will work? Any where I could get a download of the proper window masks for a b3? Any other suggestions?

Liquid mask actually works great but if you aren't confident, just use tape.

The key with liquid mask is to wait until it dries in between coats and to use several thick coats. With tape, make sure you have a sharp blade to score the tape and that's it. I did mine, and I'm no expert!

Consider practicing/testing on a small scarp from the body.

Go to your LHS they should have sheets of paint mask or adhesive backed vinyl usually in all sorts of colors, make sure it has a paper backer since you need that for a pencil tracing/ rubbing transfer. Do a pencil tracing rubbing of the windows on a normal sheet of paper, transfer the rubbing onto the back of the vinyl/window mask then cleanly cut it out with an xacto and/or scissors. Take note that the B3 windows are different on each side so there will be a left and a right side mask in addition to the windshield. After you're done, you have almost a perfect set of widow masks! Make a couple sets so you have an extra set already to go for the next time. I've done this will almost every body I've painted, works like a charm. Happy painting

You're welcome. I'm pretty sure the Thunder Tiger body is the same, I don't think you can buy the paint masks separately can you?

On the Thunder Tiger site it shows the decal sheet and it has paint masks, but when I look on tower I dont see them on the decal sheet, but there are stickers for the windows, I figured I could use those inside the body as paint masks? What do you think?

If you can get TT phoenix masks that would be great, but I don't think the stickers will work well as masks.
I suppose you could copy the shape and mirror them on to paint mask material or something like that however that's about the same as doing the rubbing transfer technique.

Hmm, think I will try the pencil technique, if that fails guess I will order a decal sheet. Thanks again for the help and suggestions.

you can try making patterns from some thin card stock. Once you are happy with how they look, take wide masking tape and lay a piece out on wax paper(it will stick, but not permanently). then trace out your cardboard templates and cut out to shape.

I'm no expert either, but liquid mask works WAY better than tape. Practically every masking tape I've tried has allowed paint-bleed as tape doesn't do corners or curves very well.

Well I ordered a Thunder Tiger sticker sheet and will use the window stickers as window masks, I will use them to make templates so I can cut out window masks from the stickyback vinyl for future use. Will let you guys know how it works. Thanks for the advice.

Finally got her painted, The Thunder tiger stickers did come with window masks. I use the masks for the side windows and used the window sticker for the front, for some reason the front window mask was cut funny. A note the front window sticker came apart as I removed it after painting and did not come off around the corners smoothly like the masked windows, it came out really good though.
