i just picked up a near mint ayk super trail bison, the body is in great shape but the paint is flaking terriably. looks like someone used normal paint instead of lexan paint. anyways will the sg coyote body fit it . or anyideas on how to get the old paint of the original without ruining it. ill post so pics once i get the 30 year old dirt off it lol

if it is flaking allready you could try to stay away from chemicals first and just use hot water and dish washing soap: let it soak till the water gets cold.

Depending on the paint you could also try white-spirit or terpentine. Both won't work on correct paint, but if someone just went with what they had in the shed... And those don't hurt lexan at all. Fuel for nitro engines seems good too.
Put whatever you use in an open cup. And put that together with the body in a sealed bag for a week orso.

I've used breakfluid: drenched cloth over the body in plastic bag for a week. On an old traxxas body I had no fogging at all. But on an old parma it fogged up the plastic, even got a bit white in spots. The worst went a way with some polishing up, and the areas that got repainted were ok.
Why does one work and the other not? No idea: too many contributing factors: type of paint, type of 'lexan' or 'pet', preparation of the body before it got painted, brnd of break fluid...
One thing though: if you try a small corner first (allways a good idea): keep in mind that it may appear not to work. Break fluid does not appear to have any effect if you put it on and start rubbing immediately

Last alternative: an out-side paintjob is not a bad thing if done well.

Paint flaking badly could be a good sign; if it wasn't painted with proper Lexan paint--or worse, Pactra paint, which practically bonds to Lexan and is very difficult to remove--the paint should come off relatively easily.

I would start with RC nitro fuel to remove the old paint, if you have access to that. Another option is mineral spirits. Castrol Super Clean (purple container) is another option. DOT 4 brake fluid should also work, as mentioned before.

Hmmm..I find nitro fuel can cloud bodies. Not good if you've got a rare, hard-to-find bdy.

Try getting some Tamiya polycarbonate cleaner....works well with elbow grease but without the clouding...

Each to their own I guess..

It didn't cloud the body I tried it on, but DOT 4 brake fluid did.

The bushing should be an easy one to fix: just measure it up or look it up in the manual. Probably something standard like 10X5 or 11X5?
