Morning everyone. Sitting here drinking some coffee.. what determines the word. Vintage from classic, is it strictly an age thing?

To me, "vintage" simply means "old". I think 25 years or older can be classified as "vintage", in my books. Vintage doesn't mean quality, or classic, or desireable/collectible. A lot of crap was made 25+ years ago, and as I'm always fond of saying, "Vintage crap is still crap!"

The first part of your sentence makes sense, but not the last part. A "classic" item would be something that is both old AND desireable. It's not just a matter of age. There's a lot of old stuff out there that's anything but classic. It's crap.

Usually the word vintage is used with a year. 1996 vintage for example. Rc seems to be the only place that vintage is used without a date, but usually with "worlds" right next to it lol!

Vintage to me is a keyword that I use to shop for goodies on the bay

These days "vintage" is used for anything that seems old to you. I cringe when I see stuff in antique shops that I recognize from my childhood, then I look at thegirl behind the counter and realize she could be my daughter. Then I feel old and depressed...

But yeah, "vintage" is supposed to be associated with a certain year, or at least a certain era.

Yep, I daresay most of *us* have become vintage. Classics? Hmm...

Funny, in Florida vehicles qualify for a "classic" plate if more than 15 years old. My 67 F100 qualifies for an "antique" plate being more than 25 years old. Not antique IMO. All that to say I guess it depends on who you ask about classic/vintage/antique.

I think "vintage" varies with brand.....Associated would mean anything pre-B2. Traxxas would mean when they made kits.

i think the whole vintage/classic is more so based on popularity than actual age of a item(car) of course age is a factor, but is not detrimental to determination of so called class
for example 57 chevy vs a 57 studebaker ya they are both vintage but the chevy would be classified a classic
due to the popularity and the following behind it, not trying to take anything away from the studebaker
but what would you want?, thats what i belive to be the determining the classification of classic vs vintage
another example for say, take a new dodge viper and a new honda civic, 25 years from now they would both be considered vintage due to age, but the Viper would obviously be in the classic class.
now lets look at a RC example, lets take a grasshopper and a tamiya hilux , I would have to put the GH in the vintage class ya it was a car that almost all of us had,,,and, or, started are interest in this hobby and yes it could be considered a classic due to its age and importance to the development in tamiya's RC timeline, But due to its simplicity and common place it does not hold a classic title in my opinion! compared to the Hilux. The hilux was a marvel of of rc engineering at the time with the all metal ,almost scale chassis, from 3 speed shiftable transmission, to the scale lifelike body and rarity of the kit
the argument could be argued from both side with valid points
but the so called vintage vs classic debate is in MY OPINION is one in the same only! to be determined in the eye of the beholder

I'd say "vintage" is anything that has been out of production for a few years.

Classic is something highly collectible and desired by the mass majority.

Ha I can totally see it!

Made me wonder if you could bypass the vehicle inspections but the DMV website says it can't be a daily driver unless inspected. First I thought I don't usually pass too many cops. Then it occurred to me the antique plate on an Escort would be kinda memorable and kinda awesome...
