My last dyeing attempt went great IMO, however I got yelled at for a couple specks of dye here and there (and everywhere according to her) so...... For my next trick....

just be careful with that thing. It's intended to heat oil to 350-450 degrees, which is way to hot even though water will just boil in that. You really only need the temp to be 100-150 degrees, more of a simmer. Not that it is temp controlled,, but it's got a lot of BTU oomph.

I almost bought a 32oz deal that is used to simply boil water but it was white and all plastic. I just couldn't do it.

I was thinking about "manually" controlling the temp as I figured it would be entirely too hot. Most of my dyeing experience has been just under a boil to keep splatter down but it takes a lot longer too. Ill report back

I wonder if you hooked up a dimmer switch in line if you could control the heat.

It runs around 1200w so it may be a bit much for a dimmer? I thought about a router speed control but i havent looked into how they work to know if it would throttle it properly

I just ran a batch of black parts. Plugged it in and let her go, once it finally got close to a boil I started watching it carefully. As soon as the boil went almost rapid I unplugged it. Waited about 5 minutes and plugged it back in. Another few minutes and it was boiling again. I pulled the parts and inspected, they looked great. I unplugged and left the parts in for another 10 minutes while the dye was cooling just for good measure and then rinsed. The cover fits tight and the basket makes it super easy! I gotta say, $16 well spent! The only negative? Changing colors is gonna suck but no worse than any other method

Sins they are so cheap, you can have one for each color

I should hit the local goodwill and thrift stores I bet I could find a few lol!

i was going to say that originally but the router speed control i bought was more then the fryer, i think i paid about $40 for mine, rated at 20A

You could just cut off one of the plug prongs, that way it would only get half the electricity.






Disclaimer - DO NOT cut a prong off the plug, unless you want to replace the plug or have a non-functioning boiling pot.

I work in the appliance industry, kinda surprised I hadn't considered this earlier but I think I will just grab a 110v generic burner switch that is used to control a surface element. They are a simple bimetal switch and super easy to put in a project case.

Then you just need to change the label on the side so it says "Dye Daddy."
