I have been contemplating electronics (brushless) for my new / vintage RC10 Worlds that is on its way to me. I want to modernize it and I have been lurking on this forum for a while and have seen some good options for a lot of things. However, I am wondering what sort of power you guys are using to help the RC10 around the track. Given that these awesome tub cars are a little on the heavier side as compared to the new stuff, what are you guys using for an ESC and particularly for the motor?

Follow-on to that.... what about your gearing choice with your current motor?

Thanks and I did read in fact that thread first, but all I gathered from it is one person asking about the CC systems helping him do wheelies and one guy responding with a 4600Kv motor will allow your RC10 to do wheelies. Another guy mentioned that the LRP sphere is good. Another mentioned a 17.5/13.5T motor as a viable option.

What I was really hoping for was a greater response much like to a poll and sharing their real life experiences racing your vintage car at the track. I can and will experiment around, but just wanted to dig a little deeper with my question.

We have raced the RC10 in both stock and mod classes with no issues. We prefer the LRP SXX V1 for the esc and motor depends on your class. We have run 17.5 Blinky, 17.5 boosted, 13.5 (Blinky and boosted) and run down to 7.5 in mod with no problems. Our experience is all real world and all in race conditions.

In the original post the question also mentions weight. Race ready my RC10 was a few grams lighter than my oldest boys B4 and was definitely lighter than the RB5. Mine tipped the scales at 1500 grams (using a standard pack). There is an assumption that the car is a pig when in fact it is just as light as the new cars.

Not yet. We just re-joined AE so we are focusing primarily on getting ahead of the game with the B4.1 WE. I'm going to build a new runner since nobody would let me run the white car. This one will be blue and use Brimods, just like my 86-90 cars. Jeremy heads to the Reedy race in a few weeks so after that I'm hoping to start building.

Yes, gearing is where I was heading to next.

I have chosen a motor to start with. I like the Castle Creations stuff. Great power at a good price. I will be starting with the Sidewinder system which has a 1410-3800kv motor. The turns equivalent is about 10.5.

That brings me to another question that I am a little rusty on.... final drive ratio. I have a stealth tranny, what is the internal ratio on this? I am also running an 81 spur. My local tracks are of decent size, indoor, smooth clay for the most part. What pinion or gearing were you running in your 10.5? What would be a good starting point for me? What is a good FDR to shoot for?

2.25 internals on the stealth....

I'll have to dig up my gearing, but be aware that 3800 is a BEAST, being a 4 pole motor (monster torque, enough for 4X4SC trucks weight 6-8 pounds).

i'm pretty sure his car has a 2.65 rpm trans in it......... going by pics in his other thread.
