My Optima Mid collection.

Hey guys, I thought I'd do a separate thread for my Optima Mids just so the other thread doesn't get too congested. Here are my Mids in no particular order for now.
So this is my Turbo Optima Mid shelfer, it was built over approximately 18 months using mostly NIP parts bought from ebay. Only the shock bodies, caps and pistons are not new but in nice condition. The body/wing, decals and OT-66 tyres are all Marwan repro's.

This last pic shows how I over sprayed the black windows a bit. I know now to paint the darker colours first.

More pics to come soon, I hope that's not too many, I tend to get a bit pic happy sometimes.

This one is a Turbo Optima Mid runner, another ebay purchase that had a silver body with SE stickers on it. Despite the body/wing and decals and mechanical speed controller it is a Turbo Mid as it had turnbuckles and gear diffs. Here's how it looked when I recieved it.

I didn't like the silver body so I ran it with a yellow SE body and wheels that came with the SE I bought and yellow Lazer ZX wheels. I took the speed controller out and used a Tamiya ESC.

I found a set of red dyed Turbo Optima wheels and thought they'd look good on this with a red Turbo body and wing, I like red and blue as a colour combo, I just need to put the stickers on.

Nice cars Keith! I love the Mids myself. They're great, tough looking cars. I bet that front bumper on the newly built car was fun to find and not cheap!

Thanks RedScampi, yea I've always like the Mids, they're such a great looking car. The new front bumper did take a while to find but I've bought another two new ones since then.

I applied the decals to the red Turbo Mid yesterday, looks pretty good I reckon.

It's a bit glary under the light in the room, I'll get a couple pics in natural daylight.

Cheers for sharing these great pictures

You've got some really nice mids.
I like the tires on the red one. What brand are those?

They're Tamiya tyres, part number 53059. I'd like to get some OT-66's from Marwan but to get as many pairs that I'd want would probably cost about 300 bucks +. More Mids to come yet, that's just the two Turbo's.

Thanks! Sourced them and thinking of buying a set for my runner.
Looking forward to see more of your collection

Wow they look great!
I have a genuine SWB tinted gear cover if you are looking for one for the Turbo, I noticed it was missing the gear cover

No probs, they're pretty cheap too. I've used them on my standard Mid runner and one of the other Mk1's and they're pretty good. I might post more Mids up tomorrow.
Correction on the ESC, it's not a tamiya anymore, it's a Novak 410.
HKS_TRD, thanks mate. I have got the gear cover for the yellow one, just haven't put it on yet.

Nice Mid collection there. I also like the red & black one best...because after all, every box-art looks like every other box-art.

Thanks guys. Glad you like them
Next in line is my Optima Mid runner. Box art body/wing, I ran it with the 240ST motor untill it went kaput then I put an EzRun 13T brushless combo in it with the standard 20T pinion. The radio is a Futaba 2PL 2.4G.
This is how I recieved it, LWB body, nylon wing (possibly from a Lazer ZX-R?) and a SWB undertray. Not sure what shocks they are but they came off, the wheels didn't stay on it for long either. It was listed on ebay for a fair while and no-one seemed interested. It looked pretty good in the pics so I thought I'd grab it, turned out to be a reasonably good car.

These pics were taken just after the body set was finished, the wheels are a bit grubby and gold shocks were fitted. You'll notice I was a bit rough trimming the body around the gear cover area but it was the first Mid body I'd trimmed for about 20 years, I vowed to do a better job on the next one.

It's had a few runs and still looks ok, it now has Turbo Optima wheels with the Tamiya 53059 tires.

Liking the white Mid Keithrc. The standard 'Mid' was easily the nicest/smoothest car I raced with back in the day. Even with the standard 240ST motor fitted, it was one of the quickest cars on the track. The best rc car ever in my opinion.
Paint those windows black for a proper box art look!
