RC10CE overhaul

This is my latest vintage project. This is a local craigslist score. It's a C stamp stealth car with original black parts. The car was in pretty good shape when I got it except for a bent nose and a whole lot of dirt and grime. I have given it a complete tear down, clean and lube. I had to use a hammer and dolly top get the nose straightened out. That left some marks on it, but it's nice and straight now. I put it all back together with mostly new hardware, and bearings in the transmission. So that is where I'm at now, and what you see here. I am going to start working on some shocks tonight, i still haven't decided if i want use the originals or maybe something else. The originals still look new, and this car is going to be a runner, so i might save them for something nicer.

Looks good! I have a couple like that, that appear to have been run only briefly, but violently, so there's no real wear, but some damage. Some kids just don't appreciate their toys, I guess...

You can fix anything with a big enough hammer

Looks good so far!

Looks a lot like the project I'm working on right now. I am jealous of your chassis, mine is discolored in spots.

Thanks guys. Yeah I have seen a few like this over the years. They look like they were bashed on the street hard for an afternoon until they hit the curb then never ran it again. Oh well, keeps us in the RC10's.

I decided to go with the original shocks. After looking at them again I realized they aren't as nice as I thought they were.

I went on Ebay looking for some wheels, but instead found a sweet set proline aero-dish truck wheels that I couldn't pass up, so I am still looking for wheels for this. I have some random stuff around here, I'm sure i can find something that will work for now.

Tonight I'm going to work on getting the axles and such worked out. I'll post some more pics when I get it rolling.

Yours is looking good. For a runner, I say if you have a solid straight chassis without a bunch of extra holes you are doing good.

Got the socks rebuilt and mounted. Was spinning the tranny and thought that it was binding. I decided to take it apart to see why before going on with the build. Turns out I hadn't put bearings in it but bushings. Usually when I do a build like this I put a piece of making tape on the chassis as a build sheet, but for whatever reason didn't do it this tone. Could have sworn I put bearings in it though. Lol.... It has bearings in it now. Also installed the axles and dogbones.

I'll snap some pics of the progress tomorrow in the daylight.

Geez, you guys must be slippin, nobody pointed out that I had one suspension mount in short position and one in the long. Well don't feel bad, I just noticed it and I built it.

No pics yet. My camera is worthless in anything less than daylight, and it was already getting dark when I got home today.

I found the wheels and tires and I think they are actually the originals from this car. The rear tires were totally worn so I used some old kyosho tires that I had. I think they were from my Stinger, but not sure. I think tonight I will start trimming and mounting the new Protech.

you mean you're not building an oval car?

Um, yeah, now I remember, that is what I was going to do. But I guess since I already set it up for off road, I will just build the oval car later.

Finally got home in time to snap some pics while it was still light outside. The dremmel got the better of me when I was doing the front body mount hole and I kind of hacked it. Ended up with the hole being twice as big as it should be. This really bugs me because I kind of pride myself on my body trimming skills. Oh well. I will redeem myself on the next one. At least it's a cheap body.

Still need to finish trimming the body. Still haven't decided on paint, but since I already hacked the holes I am not going to put too much effort into it. I will probably just do a simple 2 or 3 color scheme. Next, it's time to get some electronics in here. 8)

Looks good and I know you did that on purpose. You didn't want the body to get harmed and buckle when flex put some stress on it. This just gives it a lil wiggle room  .

You have given me a little ambition to head out and do some work on one of mine. Don't know what it is about a clean CE that makes me wanna tinker again...

Lol, thanks bud. :D

If the chassis flexes that much I might have to get the BFH back out.

Nice looking build. I love the gold and black scheme of these cars. They look cool to me.

What kind of electronics are you thinking? Looking for a runner or just a play around the house buggy?
