UU's first 10T!

Hi there! Long-time RCer, first time RC10talk poster!
I usually have a pretty large hangar of 6 or 7 RC's, but I voluntarily gave them all up to show my parents that I'm committed to doing better in college (I slipped a bit last semester). I still OWN them, but I'm leaving them home when I leave for campus this weekend.
I can't possibly handle a life with no RC's, and this was MY choice to "give up" RC, not something forced upon me, so technically, I'm not doing anything "wrong", there's just some fine print that I'm making up as I go along

well anyway, I couldn't stand having no RC's, so I decided to get ONE truck to keep me sane. I thought long and hard about what I wanted to get. I wanted something that I don't already have, and something simple and fun.
I was originally thinking about getting an RC18, and I was about a day away from pulling the trigger, when I spotted a 10T on rcuniverse (while looking for RC18's)
I was instantly reminded of how fun stadium trucks are (I've had a few in the past), and how much I've wanted a vintage Associated vehicle.
I had changed my mind, and now I just needed to work out a deal.
I got this nice fresh looking 10T, and a small amount of goodies for $117 shipped. Did I get a good deal? I am satisfied with my purchase, and don't regret it one bit, but I just want to hear others' opinions on the price I paid.

bottom of the chassis looks great!

Dogbones are a bit rusty, but that can be fixed. They appear to have no pitting at all!

and some extras

I have 2 sets of rear wheels/tires for it (2 pairs of step pins, one pair is immaculate, and the other is worn and bash-worthy)
and a few random ribbed fronts that I'm not sure if they'll have the right size bearings or not.
I'm excited to get this running smooth. I have a Novak GT7 ESC, and an Align DS620 servo (identical to Savox 1257) that I might put in, but I want to run it on the included setup for a while.
I also have a comm lathe to keep my motors running good, as well as some motors!
I've got a Tinity Jade 15x4, a Trinity 13x2, and some unknown brand 11x2, a few 19x1's, and a return of the monster 27T.
I plan on having fun with this truck. I want to keep it looking good, but I also want to drive it.
I don't plan on beating it up, but I'll definitely have some driving videos eventually.
Stay tuned for updates!
I'm glad to join you guys here on the forum!

a question: does anybody have any gearing advice for 27T motors, and 19T motors? I'd like to eventually run maybe the 15T, or even the 13T, but that'll come later. I just have no idea how to gear this truck.
I have a bunch of 48P spurs that I am going to try and make work, I've got hundreds of 48P pinions, but no 32P's.

Welcome. Sounds like you got a good deal to me. I'm not real sure on the gearing, but someone will have some ideas. Shouldn't you be studying?? :P

If your parents keep hassling you over your grades tell them you're too distracted by R/C, but it could be worse. "There's this guy on this forum I belong to that was too distracted by booze and women." -

I figured it was a good deal, but I just really didn't know.
RC has nothing to do with my poor grades, it was 100% my fault, I know what I did wrong, and I know how I'm going to fix it.
I FINALLY paid for this thing. the invoice and offer system on rcuniverse was being super laggy last night.
I got the email saying the user accepted my offer before I even got the offer confirmation email, and then I just got the invoice sometime this afternoon :p
I'll get some more pictures and such when I get it :D

Got it this afternoon :D

I dug through my bearing collection to find something to make these GT2 CVD's work
Image
needed a spacer, and I've got a TON of shock pistons. The hole reamer is honestly one of my top 3 or 4 favorite tools.

looks brand new in here! The diff is SILKY SMOOTH. it's the smoothest diff I've ever felt! It must have fancy carbide balls or something.
Image
I installed a GTX, and a smaller Novak receiver, and (very carefully and somewhat remorsefully) modified the battery cup to accept my slightly longer LiPo packs. there's velcro on the bottom to prevent it sliding forward.

I need to get some matching wheels, and better front tires.

and here's some of the goodies I got with it!
lots of 3-piece wheels destined for sale as soon as I get access to the B/S/T forum
Image
wow, I didn't think I'd ever see one of these!
Image
and the manual!

and a few other knick knacks that weren't worth a picture.

as for matching wheels and better tires...it seems you want to offload the good ones

Overall it looks great and will be a nice runner for ya.

Yeah, I figured the 3 piece wheels are worth more than some generic cheap 2.2's, and I wouldn't want to ruin them by running them, plus the tires on them are immaculate! Also, the rears don't work with the GT2 CVD's... well, they would, but they'd be significantly less stable than "regular" wheels because the inside edge wouldn't be "riding" on anything.

I was testing it out in my room today to set the slipper and the diff tightness, and my GTX burst into flames! I think it was just a general soldering mistake. Some solder looks like it melted it's way underneath the plastic case, and got to the internals... woops.
no damage to the truck, thankfully, besides some slight discoloration around one side of the base of the ESC, it's just not as shiny as the surrounding area.
I hooked up the T-1 ESC that came with the truck, and it worked for a few seconds, then quit... it wasn't smoking, or getting hot, or doing anything funky, it just quit, so that's a shelfpiece too, it'll sit right next to the burnt up GTX  (EDIT: it was the motor that died, not the T-1...)
I just bought a used LRP Sphere TC spec, because it can run sensored, AND brushed motors, that way I can run in the mod truck class at my track with brushless if I ever get that daring, and also so I can run a 17.5T if I get tired of brushed.
I won't be able to make it to the track for quite while to drive this thing, and I don't want to take it outside, there's salt residue everywhere, and it's really cold, so I'll be waiting!
For the few minutes it was running around, it seemed peppy, and I can't wait to drive it!

so... yeah
this should be fun

My new ipad mini takes better pictures than my expensive Panasonic DMC-FZ8, that's sort of crazy.
Image
0.07s/60*, and the arm is pretty long, so it has about 0.04s from lock to lock, it's absurd. I like it twitchy!
Image
Tried to use my Novak NER-2X receiver and Magnum Jr., but they didn't get along well with the high draw of the servo, and the brushless noise, so I went with this little bugger, I've had him forever, and never had an issue. I usually run Spektrum with a JR R1, but that's at home.
Image
LRP Sphere, nothing much more special here.
Image
Novak SS 13.5T... I ran out of heat shrink, so one lead has to deal with duct tape... I just remembered that I wanted to take the antennae mount off too :p
Image
And before you ask, yes I know how to set a slipper

I might be heading to the track on Wednesday, so we'll see how it holds up! I don't expect to be beating the turds out of it, and the new layout is much milder than the previous one (aka: no triple, and not 2 impossible doubles out back)
I may or may not have any video or pics from there, it all depends if I can find my tripod.

I didn't end up making it to the track, but the ground had dried out enough from the snow last night
so I went out and tested it!

I must say, I have never run anything other than 17.5T motors in my 2wd vehicles in such a long time
and what the almighty heck! Even just a bump to 13.5T makes a HUGE difference! I'm even geared 3 teeth lower than the recommended pinion size for a 13.5T (with the same spur I have)
It was starting to get a bit dark, and I didn't have too much space
so I'm going to wait until tomorrow and then go look for a better spot to drive
this truck is SO MUCH fun! It handles bumps really well, and doesn't have nearly as much push as I expected.
It looks just about right with a bit of dirt on the sides.
The only thing that could possibly make me like this truck more is a wacky neon period-correct paint scheme

Here, have an update!
Still sportin' the same kicks, hopefully I'll get some new ones before summer...
but I did a complete electronics overhaul...
Novak GTB, Hacker E40 17.5T (with high-torque rotor), and a Thunder Tiger S-15 servo... Much more "oldschool" looking than before!
I also got my spektrum stuff back up here, so I've got an old SR-3000 receiver in there.
I took it out for a solid hour of messing around today, and everything works great! The motor is geared as high as I can gear it, and it still stays under 100*F
The servo is plenty for this truck, since the front end has so little weight on it, but I'd still like to get something with metal gears, just in case.

Now for a question: What seals do these shocks take? Is there anything cheap and modern that I could buy? The front shocks are basically just pissing oil everywhere. They seemed fine when it was cold, but it was really warm today (almost 60*F), and I could feel a difference in how the truck was handling, so the oil was definitely much thinner.

It looks almost obnoxiously clean in the pictures I posted earlier! :P

What happened to that spool which was used to wrap the ant. wire. looked rat rodish :D

Brushless and 2.4GHz happened

Also... looking at it now, I can't remember what I did with the original servo and servo saver. That's going to irritate me, I can't even think of what I did with them!

This truck is a ton of fun, I really like how it drives, and everything about it is so smooth!
I used to have an old Duratrax Evader ST, and it was never anything like this, and it broke all the time.
The only thing I don't like about this 10T so far is the fact that the CVD's are a bit too long, so I have to limit the suspention travel so they don't get bent up inside the outdrives.
The chassis still bottoms out, and it still works fine, but it's just something I worry about
I;m more concerned about my outdrives though, I know how hard stealth outdrives are to find!
I saw some yesterday NIB, but I didn't feel like dropping $36 on something that I don't immediately need

I'm still running my 10T as well, and I love it, mostly do bashing now, lot of jumping, I'm using mip cv's, with an rpm tranny, B3/T3 slipper set up, castle 5700. It run's good, I love vintage, especially when they can keep up.

Yeah, the CVD's I have are from the GT2, so they aren't QUITE a perfect fit, but they work well enough.

I need to get new seals for the front shocks, does anyone know what kind of seals I can buy? I'm hoping I can just get something cheap and modern.
