Guys, I am working on the restoration of a pair of Clodbusters. I am turning them into runners for my son and myself. I have the motors from them, but they are 20+ years old and am not sure if they work. I was going to plug them into an esc and see if they run, but I wanted to know if I should do anything first to prep them. I am thinking motor spray and then some oil? What do you guys think?

Your plan is fine. I've even just water dipped some old ones and that alone can really bring them back to life. If they weren't worn out to begin with they'll still run well. They manage to stay pretty well reserved even in tough conditions. At least that's my experience.

Thumb, that is funny stuff! Here is something I have done with my motors. I connect them to a power soure, either straight to the battery or the speed control if I have the room. Then drop the entire motor into a can of jewelry cleaner. Let it sit, run it in both directions, let sit some more, run it again. Let it dry and add oil to the bearings. I picked this tip up when I started restoring HO scale slot cars. I will not personally guarantee this for everyone, but give it a try on an old motor and see what you think.
