When I was a kid, my mom had a set of china dishes that only saw the light of day at Thanksgiving and Christmas. The rest of the time they sat in the cabinet, untouched, forgotten. They were "too nice" for everyday use, my mom said.

I inherited them about ten years ago, and for a long time they sat around in boxes, gathering dust. Then we got into our new house, with a dining room, and started having people over for dinner. And using my mom's good china. It has been used more times in the past three months than it did in twenty years prior to that. Why? Well, because it's there. So why not?

Last year, I bought a lot of RC10s and parts, and among them was a Worlds car. Good shape, but not pristine. I think it had been someone's club racer. It's dirty and scuffed, but not abused, and still has the original yellow front wheels with the aluminum screws, and the Turbo Mirage body. I stuck it in a box when I got it, figuring I'd "save" it, and run the others.

The other day, I started thinking... save it for what? It's a rare-ish car, but not precious, and it's the highest-spec RC10 I have. Why shouldn't it be my own personal runner? It's not like plan to bash it or abuse it. It's not doing anybody any good sitting in a box.

So here it is, my "good china" RC10 Worlds car, ready for the old teardown/cleanup/rebuild:



It will get a mild-ish modified motor, and some nice modern electronics. I plan to clean up the original body and re-decal it to make it "mine", and reuse as many of the old parts as I can, and not irrevocably alter any Worlds-specific parts.

Looks like a good honest car to start with, should be a lot of fun to clean up. I have my ultrasonic cleaner buzzing away today as well! Lol

Sadly no battery strap. It was missing that, the rear wheels, and the front body post.

The "good china" approach is a great philosophy to live with - none of us will take our stuff in the grave with us! Will be a fun project

I like your philosiphy - I too have a Worlds car that I have raced & had alot of fun with it, although I must admit mine was in a far worse a state than yours appears to be

I cherish my workbench time also - its a great way to 'zone-out'

i am all for running it! i just picked up a worlds car that needs a clean up and tlc as parts cars for my current runner. What are you going do for 2.2 wheels?

I got one finally built after cleaning and replacing 35 percent of it including the chassis due to too many drilled holes in it.I shoulda left tub as is but i deannoed it due to minnor anno scuffs.Just needs battery brace to finish it,and sell.DON

Futaba S9602 servo (tiny and speedy; I had it, so why not?), Associated XP SC200 speedo, Tactic 2.4ghz radio, and a 540 motor. Sounds like an odd mix of stuff? Yeah, it is. But it all works really well together. I don't want to go super-fast with this one, so a 540 is plenty of power. The SC200 is lipo-ready, and the Tactic radio has been as reliable as a sunrise for me for a couple of years now.

Front wheels and tires are the originals; rears are Losi tires on 2.1 inch rims that look like a dog chewed them up. (They're still round, they just have tooth-holes in them.) I also have a set of Pro-Line Road Hawgs for the rear for driveway duty.

Going to keep the Mirage body, but strip off the previous owner's decals and add some stripes to his black-and-white paint scheme. Still need to scare up (or make) a front body mount. Photos when it's finished.
