Well I have been off work on medical leave and I decided to get my RC10 out and try it out. After a fresh set of batteries were installed, many good memories were brought back getting this old car going. Too bad that parts are hard to come by and expensive or used.

So now to my question, it looks like you can run 2.2 rubber on Thunder Tiger Phoenix BX (PD8982) rims on the rear, if you ream out the plastic abit. Who makes good tires that will be close to the originals outside diameter? What reamer do you need to use? How do these rims hold up?

On the front it looks like you can run 2.2 rubber on Duratrax Evader BX (DTXC9840) rims. Do these use the same bearings as the stock RC10 fronts? How do they hold up?

Welcome Steve. Get a set of JC Racing wheels. http://www.jcracingproducts.co.uk/products/ They don't require any modding or new 3/16" rear axles to fit on your car and are more durable than the Duratrax fronts.

Tires choice will depend on whether or not you're racing....if so then you'll have to find out what's good for your track from the racers at the track....if not then you can just order a set of tires with your wheels from JC. They've got some neat old-school patterns that will look the part on an RC10. They're pretty inexpensive too.

I just plan on bashing around the yard so I see Proline has some patterns that look cool. How do these hold up?

As for a track there is a indoor track some guys started locally in Streamwood IL that I might check out. It looks like four straights and eight 180 degree turns from the pictures they posted online. I'm not even sure if it is still in buisness, I'll have to check it out.

The price of the JC wheels is for a complete set of four.

Ok so I stripped out one of the screw holes in one of the nylon parts. How do you fix this, glue? bigger screw?

Either option would work I'm sure.

I got a 10T so I would not have anything to go racing with. I now have that same 10T another 10T hybrid project,an rpm worlds team car,JRXT and two optima mid se. Then there is my T4,xxxt,and xxx buggy that I race with. This hobby is a blast but it can spiral pretty fast if you aren't careful.

I've already got the idea of getting afew other RC10's and putting them together for my Brothers as gifts this year. We always used to fight over who got to drive it when we were kids and our parents could only afford the one car for us.

Anyone tried anything like this to revive a old rare plastic part?

Well I rebuilt the 6 gear and took some pictures. Got the trans to spin for 7 seconds so it seems pretty free. What oil do you guys use to oil the bearings in a 6 gear?

Any lightweight oil will work for the bearings. Also (and not everyone will agree with this) but I used to lube the gears inside as well and it was able to take the torture of a brushless motor for quite awhile before it did finally implode, lol.

Ok cool, I just used some 3in1 oil from around the house for now. That old Johnson Can isn't going to stress the drivetrain that much anyhow.

I like how they rate the new brushless motors in kv, 3300kv would be 3300 x 7.2 volt = 23760 RPM no load, pretty cool. How did they rate the brushed motors back in the day, I didn't really understand the turns and winds ratings back then?

How much of a motor can the 6 gear handle?

Kind of depends on the gearing. With brushless, they still have turn ratings, where the lower the number the hotter the motor but the lower the torque rating. With kv ratings its the opposite where a higher kv rating is generally a hotter motor but it will have lower torque. But there are also 2 pole and 4 pole motors now spits not an exact measurement. Plus with different C ratings on lipos it's even harder to measure exactly.

But to answer your question, I ran a brushed motor of about 15 or 16 turns, it was pretty good on the 6 gear. But if you want real speed and power, you have to go brushless with a stealth tranny and lipo power.
