Kyosho Gallop questions.

Hey guys, just a bit curious about the Gallop, I'd like to get one to add to my old school Kyosho collection and I have a few questions.
1) Are they difficult to find?
2) What sort of money do they normaly sell for in good condition?
3) What are they like performance wise to drive?
4) Are there any parts that are difficult to find?
From what I've read about them so far I think I'd prefer a MKII.
Any advice appreciated.
Keith

Hi Keith.
Like yourself I also had an interest in the Gallop buggies. Over a period of time I tracked down a few cars plus a selection of new and lightly used parts so I could build up a couple of nice cars.
In the end I finished up with 2x Gallop Mk2 buggies and I have to say that I really like this model. Essentialy the last word in this series of 4WDS buggies the Gallop Mk2 really is the best of the bunch.
After finishing both cars I parted out what ever was left over and ended up with two very nice examples (one of which I recently sold). I still have one car and it is a very nice example. They rarely come up on eBay but if you keep a look out you never know.
For me the box art really is alluring and I simply had to have one. As for driving the car, well I wouldn't hold out any hopes of super performance as there's a good bit of drag in the drive train and the rear steering doesn't really help with high speed corners.
Still an awesome car to own wether it's for the shelf or a nostalgic runner.
Cheers-Jason

Hi Jason, nice pair of MKII's there. Yea I haven't seen many at all on ebay, there's two on there now from the same seller but they're in France and my French is non existant. I'll keep an eye out and see what pops up.

Just had a quick look at those cars and they look like a good deal to me. I spent a lot of money finding, shipping and rebuilding my cars. Wish I had seen these when I was looking.
Best of luck sir.

Well I ended up winning the incomplete MK2 of those ones that were in France. I just missed out on the complete one by about 5 seconds when someone outbid me.
It turned up today and doesn't look too bad but there a fair few parts missing. I've already had the rear end off the car and basically all the gears for the rear gearbox, internal and external including the drive gear for the chain are missing, the diff is there but I think it needs replacing. There's no chain or steering linkage either, there's a few mismatching screws and nuts and the front number plate is gone too so I'll have to track all this stuff down.
On a positive note though, the car in general is pretty clean overall, just a bit dusty in places. The body and wing look pretty good as do the wheels and the tyres doen't look to have any ware on them at all. I'll get some pics later on.

Hi Keith! Post up some pictures of your win, we all want to drool.
Seriously though, this is one of the cars that is fascinating to me because it's so...80's. I got mine from a board member here and though I've never run it it will always be one of my favorites! Spare parts come up on ebay, try Fireboy125. A bit on the expensive side but he has lots of hard to find parts.

Rollcage - and that´s not a cage on wheels.
The extra link from the wishbone to the shock end, seems to be a nice "hop-up".
But I don´t see the original damper mount? Just the suspension pin ends from the MKII.
That´ll make the suspension a bit wobbly.

It also appears to be missing front dogbones, making the chain-drive rather ineffective.

Hey guys, I'm on the lookout for some parts for the Gallop, I've tried ebay but I haven't seen these parts listed. Here's a list of the things I need:
PG-28 Chain
PG-32 Gear set A
PG-33 Gear set B
PG-34 Diff gear set
PG-38 4mm bushing
PG-39 6mm bushing
PG-54 Diff case-Mount sprocket
PG-75 Linkage set
PG-82 Gearbox bearing set
I still haven't taken any pics of it yet but I'll do that soon.

The chain from an optima or rocky will fit the Gallop. As far as the bushings, I would look for flanged bearings in those sizes.
