I resisted getting into the post JRX cars for quite a while until a great trade with RedScampi saw this very nice XX join my collection.

So my plan for this one it to use my usual skills to refurbish the car using parts that are probably completely the wrong period  but hey it should look all pretty when it's done.

I got a nice chassis set from Jose and a new motor mount from Askbob, thank you Gentlemen so I'll throw those on.

I'm not quite sure what paint schem to go with on this, who were the team drivers during the period of the XX apart from BK?

Actually thinking about it I might do it in an Ellis Stafford scheme to match the XX4.

Clean XX. I'd do a Greg Hodapp paint scheme. I believe it was purple, yellow, and white .

Thank you, I'll see what I can dig up on Greg's older schemes, I've found one on an X6 but unsure if he goes back to the XX period?

I've fitted the new chassis set and motor plate.

I've got a set of wheel disks on the way, I'm not so keen on the orange, I'll probably go all white, I also picked up a full set of nip yellow kit wheels and disks from Askbob at the same time.

I think all I need to find is a wing wire and buttons.

I liked the orange disks. LOL. Thought there was going to be a orange/white/blue theme there.
Here are some drivers from 97/98 ...
Matt Francis
Jukka Steenari
Jimmy Babcock
Brian Dunbar

Hodapp did run XXs, and those were his colors. :) Finished 6th at 97 IFMARs at the RPS, using a XXcr. :D

I can't find many decent photos of Greg's cars, just these two

Does anyone have any more images of his rides?

Thank you for those, I'm pretty sure I'm going to stick to a scheme close to this Ellis Stafford one for both XX & XX4

I may use Greg's scheme on another project 8)

Are you going to be using an airbrush?
Was wondering to myself how one would approach that lightning effect.

I find the easiest way to achieve a paint scheme of this design is to package it well and send it to Jon Miller at RCS Graphic Worx

Very easily! Use a small paintbrush to paint the lines on first in a zig-zag pattern, then use an airbrush with the same colour and LIGHTLY spray over the lines - the effect you'll get is just like below!
