resurrection of an old Warrior

I´ve never had a gold chassis before, so was happy to pick this one up.
I found it in an advert for two onroad cars, laying in a corner barely pictured.
I gave the guy a call, arranged the deal and as a side remark reminded him to ship the wreck in the corner aswell. He told me that it was binned in a boxfull of scrap ready for the landfill. I asked him to pick it up again and ship it with the rest of the cars. I guess his impression was, that I was a bit on the slow side
The original shocks are mounted on one of the onroad cars, so I took the liberty of trying something else.
Purple shocks with ghost rods.
Pictures were taken after the rebuild, which included new diffs, gears, front & rear hubs and ball links.
Plus new screws.

That was in a SCRAP BIN?!? Some people just don't get it, do they? Makes me want to start checking dumpsters...
Good job saving it from certain doom. Looks good!

Looks pretty, gotta love purple & gold...such a royal color combination! Call it your "King Midas" Optima.
Just noticed the gold spanner tube weirdly hanging off the rear gearbox sideplate...I don't believe that hole serves any purpose. Check for a stock silver spanner tube between the rear gearbox sideplates at the front of the gearbox, maybe the previous owner didn't notice he could upgrade that one with the Celebration chassis parts--or didn't get around to swapping it.

Very nice considering it was destined for scrap and Nice refurbish job on it. What happened to the purple shocks that were in the fist set of pictures?

Thanks - The purple shocks are now mounted on a piece of homebrew.

Thanks Jeff, It would be a waste of good body´s, to let me paint them - But I put on a good sticker if that´s any help

I kinda liked where Dennis was going with that gold & purple color scheme, too...at least on this site it hadn't been done before. It would've looked pretty smick with those purple turnbuckles & links!

Two things on the purple shocks that made me sway away -
1. Being my only GOLD celebration chassis, gold should be dominant. With purple shocks, I only "saw" the shocks.
2.Threats from gomachv - There can be only one, Mr Purple!

Lol
Personally I like the more traditional gold look. The purple against that gold kind of cheapened it IMO. Plus those Ghost shock shafts leak like crazy!

You forgot to remove the purple turnbuckles. Other than that, nice traditional build.

You´ve got good eyes

They´re awaiting the next caustic soda bath, or even better, me finding something more in style with OTW turnbuckles.

IIRC, Kyosho makes goldish titanium turnbuckles for some of their current cars. Maybe those would work out nicely?

There were aftermarket gold alloy links/turnbuckles for the Kyoshos back in the day, but I can't say for sure if they were for the Mid or the original Optima, or even the Ultima. I was lucky to unearth a full set in perfect condition in a parts lot I received from a forum member, and used them on both my Zebra and OptiMutt cars. I don't know who made them though, mine were installed on parts cars and no longer in their bags. If you can track down a set of those, that would really round out your all-gold Midas Touch Optima.

That's kind of where I'm going with the Zebra car...but finding those gold hop-ups is a very time-consuming process.
