I have just picked up a couple of ZXR buggies and have noticed a few differences between them. How many different models were there after the original ZX and leading up to the ZX-S?

Is it- ZXR, ZXR mk2 then ZXRR?

There's also the ZX-5, which also came in a few additional flavors.

Zx5 isnt a belt drive so isnt really part of the lazer series, as its a cheapo car designed off the back of the zxs (hubs, castor, steering knuckles, wheels) so kyosho could make money on spares. Wasnt a good car.

I read before that the original ZX-5 had fragile plastics, but the ReadySet version I bought secondhand doesn't seem to suffer from that problem, so I guess they changed the plastics somewhere along the way...that said, every evolution of the ZX-5 after that has been a good car.

Thing is the zx, zxr, zxs are an evolution of belt drives but the zx5 is a shaft so really isnt a lazer.

If a ZX-5 isn't a Lazer then what is it? If Kyosho call it a Lazer, it's a Lazer, end of story.

Maybe it needs to be divided into Modern Lazer and Vintage Lazer, the ZX-5 fitting into the former category.

When I think Lazer I think the belt driven models, the shaft driven cars just have the same name.

I know thats being overly simplistic but thats how I view it

Now for additional fun and confusion, there's a vintage Kyosho onroad chassis called the "Laser Sport".

No belts or central shafts on that one.

Sorry to point out the obvious but you may want to re read my initial post on this thread. My question was in relation to the Lazer models up to the ZX'S' cars. After the ZXS cars Kyosho took a break from 4WD off road buggies. The much later ZX5 was an entirely different beast.

hmmm... I seem to recall there being a ZX-R and ZX-S (pretty much the same car but the S didn't have "gold" shocks or as much carbon as the R and probably a few more things that could be upgraded to R spec) around the same time as the Triumph? Back in 1994 or something like that?

The ZX-S I thouhgt was a kyosho team edition only few were made and they have lots of custom parts like no rear diff case, special slipper and ball diffs, chassis a lazer heads dream, Ive never even seen one in person most people that own one Ive read about get them from team members are payed godly amounts of cash probably one of the most sought after and rarest kyoshos ever offered due to the number of these cars produced,{ Does any one have a # of prodution}. Im in the United States and I would like to just hold one that would really make my day I wish they would have made the ZX-5 a diffrent name like Tazzer ZB-5 so when I search ebay for lazers I would only find the classics, make searches kind of a bitch I still troll ebay every day for that great cheap car that has a misprint in the title no one else sees but thats me just dreaming.
