T2 transmission swap for the B3!

I've never heard of anyone doing this so I grabbed a T2 case and motor plate to experiment with :D 2.6:1 in a B3 or T3 sounds interesting

The case was shaved on the sides to clear the arm mounts, the bottom shaved to fit the kick plate and tapped new bottom holes in the case to match the mount holes in the rear kick plate. It's a tight fit, but it fits. For the prototype bracket I used a fiberglass battery strap I made a white back with 2 10T rear shock mounts to connect the brace to the transmission case. Buy chance it worked and it's pretty solid. I figure I'll ditch the 10T parts for a fabbed fiberglass 1 piece, I just need to make now that I know what size it needs to be.

I'm not sure how to connect the motor plate with the bottom kick plate, or if I even need to? I think I'll just leave it and maybe mount a heat sink off the motor plate. Next step is adding internals to the 2.6:1, I didn't bother originally since I didn't think this was even going to work. I'm hoping the outdrives won't be an issue, I'll find out soon enough keeping my fingers crossed. More to come soon, I need to source the transmission internals.

What do you guys think? Worth while mod or am I just wasting $?

I've been wanting to try the opposite and put a B3 transmission on a T2 tub but, from the dimensions I've been told, it seemed like I'd had to drill new screw mounting holes right on top of the existing T2 transmission holes. Didn't want to do that.

Plans were for a T2 buggy build and I think the 2.4 transmission has a better ratio for a buggy.

I think it would possible to do the opposite for a 2.4:1 in a T2, I don't own one to try for you sorry. I'm guessing take an entire B3/T3 transmission and make a bottom mounting bracket with a square hole in it for the transmission for bottom mounting since the holes in the B3/T3 are closer together and I don't think you'd want to drill the chassis. Another bracket would be necessary, some kind of angle bracket for the bulkhead mount. The motor plate would have to be a B3/T3 too I don't think with either case you can re-drill and use the opposite motor plate, they're just too different. Grab a case, I bet you could get it to work. 8)

Oh and I ordered all the transmission internals so sometime next week I'll get to test drive, it should be interesting
