Does anyone here own one ? I bought a 1991 Probe GL . Auto with 2.2 4cyl.
I never was much in to cars, but i figured I'd try something a little more fuel friendly. The car is very spacious, all the controls on the dash are a little "different"

Did a little research on it, the only thing i didnt like about what i read was the transmissions will randomly drop in to Nutral while driving. This car didnt do it, so i hope 79,xxx miles its okay.

I had an 89, but it was a 5 speed. Excellent car. Drove nicely, reliable, easy on gas, the only thing I hated was the digital dash. Almost impossible to read in sunlight.

Only reason I sold it was to buy my Miata.

I had a 90 Mazda MX6 (same car on the inside), loved it until the Trans went out.

I had the center section and cold side from a Probe Turbo on my Turbo Escort at one time. Does that count? Lmao!

kinda along the same lines...Halgar was driving his ford one night when he got abducted by aliens and then got probed...does that count?

drove a few over the years and just couldn't get into the 'car' situation. They drove decent and all but its hard enuf to get into my mustang with my old broke ass so I gotta do a little taller ride with my explorer

For Halgar I would say it counted  haha

I drive a few in the dealerships when I was a tech and I gotta say- we didn't see a ton of them but when they did come in they were a pita to work on (keeping in mind we were Ford techs not Mazda). Everything was different than what we were used to. If you ever have issues, skip over the ford guys and take it to Mazda. They know those cars

I'm intrigued at this. Got any pictures of that animal mach5? Istarted driving in a red 91Escort GT, so there are some fond memories associated. If i had the time/money/ garage space, and could find one in decent shape, I think it'd be cool.... - even if just for the nostalgia.

Mine was a 88....the ford mill not the (better) Mazda motor in the newer gt's. mine was destroked from 1.9 to around 1.8, and had a later model roller cam and head from a sefi. Weird combo but made 180hp at the wheels on the dyno, and was a hard pulling car on the freeway. Very stealth, until the BOV would hiss hahaha

These were taken well before it was finished, and before the FMIC

I learned to drive in a red Escort GT. I think it was an 89 though. That is the car I traded for the MX6, after I got my first RX-7. 8)

It even said on the build plate on the door: "Manufactured by Mazda for Ford." VIN started with a 1, not a J, though... must have been built at Flat Rock?

I do remember that these were supposed to be the replacement for the Fox-body Mustang, until the Mustang fans cried foul at a FWD car with a Japanese platform being called a Mustang. I still think they could have come up with a better name, though...

My Probe needs 2 fenders, inner fender-wells, hood , pop up headlight mechanisms. Runs decent, interior is okay, Doesnt leak any fluids.
Great little project daily Driver.

I do wish i woulda searched for parts before i got it. Having a real hard time finding the larger exterior parts . Well i did have a hood and bumper lined up,but i spent almost $200 on a incomplete Tamiya Bruiser :?

Since they weren't run built very long they are hard to come by in the junkyards. Even the older yards around me I've only run across a few here and there and they are usually totaled out losses that get crushed once the motor gets sold. Good luck with your project.

Thanks. I havent even been able to find reproduction body panels.
My probe was in a fender bender, the hood and pass fender got messed up.Hood still closes, but you can see the marks from a hammer on the outside

One of my friends had a Probe back in the 90's. The anal probe and probelem jokes were relentless.
