Who else has a radio fetish?

I'll be honest, like big brakes on full sized cars, something about radios with lots of cool buttons really gets me going.

My new to me Futaba 7C that I bought used for the Kyosho Blizzard, to allow channel expansion for lights and other accessories, seemed really cool. The metal toggle switches in the upper corners have that nice solid "thunk" when you flip them.
For a laugh, I went to Futaba's website wondering what the top dog radio was assuming it would be something for the heli crowd. I don't think I expected this, but wow.....

Only $3k! Jeezus...
I know nothing about rc airplanes or heli, but a quick read on some forums about the 18mz gave me some indications of what it offers like real time telemetry, the beautiful touch screen with a gajillion settings, etc.
Just thought I'd share, and apparently from what I read last year there was a waiting list for this radio so there IS a decent market for a $3,000 RC radio system!

that thing is nuts. but i guess if you are flying 1/4 scale jets or something crazy like that then the 3k is just a drop in the bucket.

Looking at that $3K radio, why don't they just make one with an iPod (or equivalent) dock where the screen is located? It would make it cheaper and probably more configurable/expansive.

Exactly. If they did that, they couldn't have total control over the proprietary software. They want you to spend another three grand in a few years when the next generation comes along.
As for me, I like my radios simple. Really simple. If Futaba would make the old brown-and-chrome Attack 2-stick, but 2.4 ghz, it would be my favorite radio.

my grandfather used to buy the old Multiplex radios, crazy big things with 21 channels etc, he used his for scale tugboats etc, so all those channels were actually used and they were quite expensive back in their day as well.

I'm with ya on this one. I figure I should have something a little more complicated around just in case I decide to take over the world and I need to build a Terminator to send back in time to destroy those who may stand in my way... er, I mean I just like cool radios... that's all. Not quite as cool as that, but for $79 I figure this is a must have.

If you want flashing lights buy an ipad for next to nothing.
More interesting to me is... STICK V WHEEL ?
I have never even tried a wheel radio. They look really odd! But I guess the may feel quite good? Thoughts?...

I really dig the pictures of the mintage ones! Now who's going to step up and buy a Futaba 18MZ so you can stick it in a closet for 20 years for a grand unveilng as "mintage" in 2033?
