OK, no Scr8p or mrlexan jokes. How fast could you assemble a NIB RC10 start to finish bone stock without instructions. Also noting the difference between original and stealth versions. Most of us have built and re-built so many of these many parts could be done blindfolded. For those who don't have the terminal RC10 illness a quick peek at the instructions would be allowed.

I think orginization would be a key factor on how fast one could build it. Searching through bins for all the parts and laying it out would take some time, but if it was all laid out, the work area wasn't a mess and a cordless screw gun was used I'm guessing I could do a team car in about 20-30 minutes(just the rolling chassis, no body, no electrics). Never timed it or tried to set a land speed record so I'm just guessing

Assembling a 6-gear tranny would be like looking at a part from the space shuttle for me. But I could probably finish a Stealth car in under an hour if everything was organized like transamman908 said.

Add another hour to that time to find the right tools and missing e-clips.

Bitd I built them for customers at the hobby shop, charged $40-60 depending on paint and speed control. Usually took a couple hours to get to a running condition then a little paint. That's starting with a sealed box and radio and I quit using the instructions long long ago I even wrote down the turnbuckle lengths so I didn't have to open the manual.

I'd PAY $40 nowadays to build a sealed one for someone!

I'm really fussy about things like hinge pin fit, and gear mesh, so I'm slow. And I've never even held a 6 gear tranny in my hand, so I'm sure that would take me a while to figure out. I would set aside a whole day, and order a pizza, and enjoy every minute of it.

I still haven't finished building the first RC10 I bought back in 1988.

Eyes are not what they use to be . Those tiny screws that hold the bearing /bushing in the ilders will do me in . And throw in the allen wrench . I am Doomed . 6 gear never.

my first 6 gear i purchased as a kid took me 3 days to assemble, paint, full electronics with mechanical speed controller, i had to wait for my dad to get me a drill bit for servo mounts,

i think i could build a team now in 2-3 hours if i was not interrupted or distracted.

Oh yes, this. All items laid out, clean large table, chilled tunes playing, jack and coke, pizza, RC10 build all day. I'd spend quite some time getting the shocks and tranny just right. The rest would fly by quick. Then the electronics would take a while.

Day two would involve trimming and painting the body. Then zooming it around the garden about 30 seconds after I finished

When I was a kid my first car was a Hornet. My Dad stayed up unto 3am building it for me. The git woke me up just to say he had finished The next morning I proceeded to run it outside. Only the controls were all back to front! It was epic, fast, scary and twice as hard as it should have been!

There is a big difference between throwing a kit together and really building a kit. Sure most of us could throw a car together in under an hour. A brand new in box kit would be a struggle to finish in under an hour I would think.

Building a kit right takes time, making sure everyrhing is trimmed, fits well, doesn't bind etc.

I would say shocks are the worst part though, I never look forward to that part of the build.

I always thought an interesting "race" would include building the kit. Everyone starts with the same kit (something simple like a Hornet), all the bodies are pre-painted, you BYO electronics. The buzzer sounds, you start building. First one to plop his car on the track and complete 5 laps wins.

For a runner, no paint, start-finish I'm at 35 min. (stealth) 6 gear 1 day 45 min
Taking my time on a prized shelve- maybe 1 day or 2 ( on a weekend.......... alone )
