Hi all,
About 2 weeks back I made a 3 way trade and turned my Blackfoot Extreme roller into 2 YZ-10's and a JRX-2 and some other odds and ends (wheels/tires and such). I have never even seen one outside of a magazine or this site and never driven any 4wd buggy before. They are not in the best shape and they are definitely missing parts but man are they cool looking.

Anyway I can see some differences but I don't know much about either of these cars. Could anyone tell me if they are indeed YZ-10's and if you can tell any particular time frame to source a manual from? I know the standard operating procedure is to build the best one from the 2 cars but I am not sure which parts are better or what I rally have. I would like to have one to drive and if possible maybe get a nice project from the 2nd one.

I posted the first car for ID 2 weeks ago and it had holes drilled all over it so I picked an undrilled used chassis w/spline off ebay and made the switch. Since then I have been browsing the Yokomo section trying to learn what I can.

I can see the Andy's arms and hubs on the 2nd car(nice of him to write his name on them ). Why are the nylon parts pink on the first one? Where they dyed that way by a previous owner?

I think I did well on the trade but I am unsure where to go from here. Any direction you could give would be great. Thank you, Jason

Both cars effectively have the elements of the Yz10 and 870c.

Chassis components have been heavily machined.

Like you said there are some option parts from Andy's and RPM .

I would base your best car on the second one.

The pink parts look to be dyed stock to me. Maybe difficult to change the colour ?

First cars has the nicer silver shocks leading me to suspect its from the yz870c superdogfighter.

The electrics are an interesting bunch! The useful ones would be the Novak, and futaba mc112b.

The others are probably not suitable. That motor also looks like something for a heli?!

I think you'll get one good build out of this at least. You may need to invest in new/unmolested chassis
and shock towers. Team bluegroove for shells and wing.

I have been looking at different bodies but I am not sure which style I like just yet...

Would you recommend the stock parts over the Andy's/RPM pieces? From reading the forums it seems the RPM parts are not the most popular.

My thoughts were to do a nice off-road runner with the best car. The tires on the second car made me think about maybe doing a drift or rally car with the leftovers.

I guess the first step is to figure out how the drivetrain (no 4wd experience other than a clodbuster) works and figure out if I can find new belts.

they are both 870C cars, ie, yz10 in the USA.

very nice option parts on them include: rpm front bulkhead system on the one car, as well as an upper brace, rc10 shocks and turnbuckles.

the second car is mostly stock except for shocks, andys white arms and some tie rods.

the ideal thing to do is to break them down completely into parts, clean them up and then decide what you want to do. You have the makings of a very complete stock 870c and a 'typical' modded one. find the manual here or online somewhere and make a pile of parts for each build. scour the yokomo forum here for builds. I can't recall who did, but a member posted an EXCELLENT build thread for a stock 870c which is right up your alley.

I ended up with a very similar scenario, and my plan is to build them as I mentioned above. The shocks on the first and all the pink nylon are factory pieces. they could be dyed black or darker pink.

Oh yes, the Novak and the Futaba both works. The motor actually came out of the Jrx-2 I got in the deal. I thought it was a heli motor also. I googled it and found that back in the day you could put like 10 cells to it and it would scream.

oh, and the gold motor up there is an astro-flight turbo 05, it's a great motor as long as it fits in the chassis(with the oversized brush hoods, it doesn't fit many places). I had a couple and then worked well for me.

i like the idea of building the first one stock and using the second on for the mods. Now just to read the threads again because I saw several mishaps with boiling and dying parts

I would love to do a build thread but I always forget to stop and take pictures while I am working.

Don't try and dye the bulkhead and motor mount caps at all!!!!! Everything else is OK.

LOL I am still new enough that boiling scares me. Hot water,simple green and a toothbrush/magic eraser is what I use most of the time

I'd go with the protech II shell. Don't boil the parts!

Andy's stuff is popular but I don't see any issues with rpm gear.

Keep your mobile whilst you are building and take snaps...that's what I do.
