I just got a new to me rc10 to add to my growing vintage collection and have some questions. I got it from the son of the original owner and it looks like it has very low time on it. after researching a bit it looks like its a mid to late edinger rc10...? things ive noticed are:

a stamp chassis
edinger address on the motor
all-thread turnbuckles
hex on part of ball cups
older motor cover?
older front spindles with less meat on them, I think
newer bell crank
older shocks and towers
tires have no lettering on them? proline?
font tires are 3 rib..? proline?

now on to my real question. I really want to build a modernized rc10 out of this to run but if this is more collectable than I think, should I shelf it and keep it original? I have other rc10 stuff I could build a modernized runner out of if this thing is rare? please let me know your opinions cause I don't want to hack into this thing if its more of a collectable.

I voted for shelfer. That thing is too clean to run. Need to straighten out that front end though.

Get a beater for a runner!

I wouldn't say don't run it, but absolutely don't "modernize" it. It's perfect just the way it is. If you want to tinker with one, there are plenty out there with a lot more miles on them for not much money. Put it this way: RC10s aren't rare, but one this old this clean is getting there.

I'd vote for modernizing a stealth trannied rc10 if you got one instead of this one. Seems to be in decent shape and I don't usually think 'shelfer' but in this case I'd shelf this one after some minor replacement parts...

looks like I will be restoring this one lol. anyone know what this thing is? mid-late edinger? any close guesses on what year it was made?

The bottom of that chassis looks really good, you should save that car, and buy a real beater. My vote is in.
