Associated tried RTR before traxxas was even latraxx lol.

I know- bolink, jerobee, associated and many others had RTR also-this is the first I seem that actually used that terminology though.

I was on another forum where people do not usually care about rc. One guy started a thread and ended up buying an expensive pile of bits all made in China. All most people want is the fastest thing for the least amount of money. They smash it up driving like retards, bin it, then buy more crap from China to replace it with. Welcome to the disposable world of Chinese crap.

We are in a shrinking niche of nostalgia guys.

Doesn't matter whether it's cheap Chinese crap or the more expensive Chinese crap we race with. If those same people bought a Traxxas, HPI, Associated, Schumacher or Tamiya they would still thrash it, destroy it and bin it. I know a hobby shop owner who was constantly amazed at the abuse some customers gave to cars he sold, and that they were upset when he was going to charge them for doing simple jobs like replacing a snapped wishbone,

But if the only option was the more expensive cars from the big manufacturers, or if they had to build it from a kit, then they most likely wouldn't buy an r/c car to start with and some of them won't then move on to joining a club.

Good riddance to most of em, I say. People, in general, don't respect anything these days. They buy something, misuse and abuse it, toss it and buy new one, whether it's an RC or anything else. Maybe if the prices were higher, these retards think a little harder about what it is they're buying so that they buy better quality and respect it.

LaTrax and Traxxas were two different companies.

You are correct but that doesn't necessarily make it the same company. :) One was started in the mid 70's and then sold, and then the other was started in the mid 80's.

As someone who works for a shop that sells some of the Chinese stuff, I can weigh in.

Halgar, you said it. Much of it comes down to unrealistic expectations for a product. The 2 most common questions I am asked, "what's the fasted Rc you have". (I point to the XO-1) and "how durable are these?"

I explain the difference to them like this, there are "toy grade" ones from Walmart and toys r us and there are hobby grade. We sell both. The hobby grade ones are going to be a bit better quality and they can be hopped up, or replace broken parts. The others typically end up in the garbage after you break them.

I get those people who think my store is one where you can buy it, abuse and destroy it, and come back and expect a new one and go and repeat the process. It's ridiculous. In terms of durability, I get both responses, either, man this thing had a knarly crash and kept going, or I just barely hit something and it snapped.

I agree, I seriously wonder what their expectations are? Hobby-grade doesn't mean indestructible. Everyone, even the experienced guys break occasionally, its expected. We also know that jumping ones house with an Rc car isn't normal use either.

I think rc cars are more durable these days. The plastic tamiya used will snap and break even when unused and sitting on the shelf. The use of composites have really strengthened the plastic. I am amazed are some of the crashes my vehicles live through at the speeds they are going

Isn't a 1/10 scale car doing 100mph like a real car doing 1000?
