I reckon this will be a God-send for us...what are your thoughts?

Mike.

My thoughts are you could have scrolled down the topic list a little and saw there's already a thread on the subject. :P

Not quite a god-send, I don't think the durability of that plastic is too good. It's fine for making parts that don't need a lot of strength, but I doubt it'll be strong enough for things like control arms & shock towers, for example.

They made a gun out of it!

Having said that, I would not want to shoot the damn thing.

I'm sure different polymers will become available, though.

Umm...there's more to it than that. I read about that "Liberator" plastic gun. Wasn't that a one-shot deal and you had to replace the barrel? And did you see how thick the barrel was? That doesn't sound like durability to me...if you wanted to make some RC parts that were as durable as nylon, glass-filled nylon or alloy counterparts, the printed plastic parts would probably need to be 2 or 3 times as thick as the originals. ;)

I would love to see some printed Javelin cages, in different colors.

3d printing has come a long way.... but still has a long way to go. They are cool, but printers that are open to guys like us make parts that aren't all that durable, and offer a finished product with a surface that is obviously 3d printed. A printer that mimics an injection moulded part for hobby use is still a bit far off.
And why is this in the Kyosho section?? :?
