Cleaned Scorpion

I received this Scorpion 3 weeks ago. Apart from tub being painted while mounted on the chassis, it was in a very nice mechanical condition.
Judging by the lach of scratches on the tub, it has not seen any dirt.
The spurgear gear was mounted in the spurgear cover and not on the motormount, so my guess is that it was put aside after it´s maiden voyage. None of the gears shows sign of wear or dirt.

I have matching yellow fronts undergoing cleaning.

I´ve cleaned the body and tub in brakefluid, polished the easy parts and resprayed the body.

I guess this is the mkI - no diff.

Beautiful! One thing I remember from back in the 80's, when I worked at a hobby store and first saw the Scorpion--I absolutely loved the Centerline wheels. What are the specs on those fronts (diameter, width, bearing size)?

That looks really nice! I did not know they came with the yellow wheel combo. What do the fronts look like that you are cleaning up?

I might be wrong but I thought the Cox Scorpion came with the yellow wheels and the Kyosho came with white ones. :?:

Either way, either white or yellow should work with this car. Dennis can then send me the front chrome ones, because they just don't match.

Many thanks for the kind words.

I haven´t been able to find a Scorpion box where the boxart had Yellow wheels.
Only the nitro versions of the circuit 1000 and the Beetle, as Lars allready wrote.

Marc - thanks for Your interest in the front rims. I can´t let these go but new ones can be found on ebay from time to time. Very cheap too, not more than 50 usd for a pair
The rims are 50 mm tall and takes flanged 8mm bearings.

Thats a great looking scorpion, Dennis! I got 2 sets of those yellow rims, used but good cond. Its always a +++ to get them in hardly used condition, they are right there next to the NIB ones that cost $$$$. Yeah the yellow rims were used on the advance, assault and beetle. scorpions came with chrome or white rims.

You can also get the alloy centerline rims for a bit more than $50  on ebay or pargu2000.

Yeah, I love those front wheels, but I don't like the stock size of the Scorpion rear wheels. So they're 2" diameter more or less--that's the inside bead diameter, I assume? I'd just need to source a set of similar-looking 2" or 2.1" alloy wheels in that same Centerline style...I love Centerlines, from the first day I saw them, I was struck by how simple and yet different they looked. I'm a Centerline fanboy. 8)

I kind of dig the difference in diameter of the rear and front rims :D . Vintage kyosho's pic of a kyosho beetle with those alloys got me hooked on instantly on the kyosho 1000 circuit series. Before I used to brush them off and look at the tamiya sand scorcher and super champ. Not anymore, the realism and scale look of these kyosho 1000 series is incredible.

Hey guys, so is brake fluid the option for body stripping (have a scorpion shell to do) or can I get away with Dettol which I have use on smaller parts in the past?
What about spraying wheels silver? Can you get a half decent shine out of a can or not?

Cheers
