This is a toy grade cross hobby grade r/c car from Ban Dai .

Looks to be a slightly modded Hot Shot but with twin shocks at each end but it's really totally different. Battery is mounted long ways up the chassis. Twin diffs that is shaft driven by Mid Ship motor 4WD lay out . Suspension looks to be good but no damping at all and I think a shock upgrade is on the cards at least along with ball racing.

This example is in very good nick with all of it's original RTR electrics. Interesting that it's made in Japan not China or Hong Kong. I plan to run it after a rebuild if all the internals are ok. Came with a Tamiya black 80's "Racing Pack" & clock charger as well.

Not sure when I will get around to this but it's in my stable and thinking of what i'm going to do in the meantime. Have too many projects and working crazy hours.

This is how it arrived.

Same family as the MRC Road Winner and Monogram Tornado and Brushfire. I have the Brushfire and Road winner shown in this thread http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=30449&hilit=Road+winner

The Brushfire version came with a wheel bearing set and oil shocks

I have a lot if good memories with the Road Winner. Very cool to see another version!

yup... had a Bandai Interecepter a few years back too... I put in on ebay and it sold for like $40 to a guy in Japan (which is a sign, btw)... it ended up costing me like $80 to ship it and as I had put a flat $50 global fee I still remember it

I never dared to run it but I think that with proper shocks, and assuming the plastics were chosen wisely, there's no reason why it couldn't perform like the crappy 4wd of the time (read: pre-optima). It looks properly engineered!

Nice find!

Paul

kinda reminds me of my old monogram mad wolf .. i think this is my old one on tamiyaclub. looks like the one i sold on ebay . i think its mine cause of the way the body was cut and i put in a new tamiya stock motor in .. the only problem i had was i could not stand that if anything broke you cant get a part.. very cool fully sealed chain drive 2wd http://tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=79100

Yeah it looks to be of decent quality and the plastics seem have some flex so not brittle.

I'm really not sure what I will do as I have had a offer from a Tamiya Club member for almost 4 times what I paid for it.

I really like cars that are a little different that's why I wanted this model.

Cheers

id take the cash and buy a new rc.. just take alot of pics and maybe photo copy the paperwork from the rc. thats almost as good as owning it,plus you can buy a rc to bash/use (i never use offbeat rcs cause 1 broken part = useless)

I bought one last year just weeks before a big vintage race. Worked on it like a devil to get proper electronics in, bearings throuhout, replacement of the broken body, and a simplified shock setup with oil-filled units.
It was actually great fun to drive, even while it was bouncy like a tennis ball . I kept the stock motor in and it ran faultlessly for 2 days.
As it happens I’m prepping it a bit further to run again this summer
