Hi All,
I am working on my sons 1992 RC 10 Buggy (It has never been finished or ran). Anyway I notice in a bag I have a few of the split washers but the car has all of the shocks installed and they appear to be working.. Did the kit come with extras or do I need to tear down the shocks to see if they are assembled correctly? Also if I need parts for these shocks can i find them and where?
Thanks in advance any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely, Jack

Jack you should be able to get new parts via tower hobby or the team associated website expecialy this september with the re-reliese of the RC10

Are you talking about the metal e-clips or plastic split washers? You shouldn't have extra plastics but they give a lot of extra e-clips so you can bounce a few off the walls and ceiling

They are the plastic split washers.....I have 3 of them and 2 rubber O-rings... Sounds like I need to start taking them apart doesn't it?

if the shocks are "working properly", it'd be hard to believe that they aren't in there. especially if there's still oil in them.

any chance that one was missing from the kit and you went to the hobby shop and got a pack of 4 and just forgot about it? having 2 o-rings left....... i kinda remember that being a normal occurance. but not 3 of those retainers.

actually, i'm not sure if you could get just those retainers in a 4 pack. i think so, but i might be wrong. :?

The reason I say "open em up" is due to the missing diff balls and misplaced bushing in trans- the chances of a skipped oring, flashing on spacers, etc are high

Retainers were always with the rebuild kit, I don't recall ever seeing them separate.

oh i would rebuild them too. i just don't see the shock internals staying in place if they aren't there. but i guess anything is possible.

anyway, here's the rebuild kit for the shocks.

O.K., I drained the oil and removed the rod assembly so I could see into each shock absorber tube. They all hace the plastic split washer in place and none of them are leaking oil so I am going to assume they are assembled correctly. If I was to buy a rebuild kit how the heck do you get those parts out of there? I wanted to take them completely apart just to make sure everything was done correctly but I can't figure out how to get that split washer out of the groove...
Any advice is greatly appreciated...
Thanks, Jack

The kits come with a tool to pop out the old stuff and assemble the new. It's pretty easy just make sure you get all the flashing off the parts. Also I highly recommend using "green slime" as assembly lube. Associated sells it.

I have the assembly tool but how do I use it to disassemble? It is a plastic dowel looking device for stacking the components and pressing then into the shock body. How do I use it to get the plastic split washer out of the groove it sits in?
