Yokomo MX-4........ Restore or part out?

So, a friend of mine says he has an 80% complete YZ-10 and was wondering if I wanted it. I get my hopes up as I've always wanted one but haven't come across one, nor have I actively searched for one either. Anyways, he brings it in and it turns out it's an MX-4.
The buggy is in reasonable shape but missing a fair bit more than I was hoping for. Are MX-4 parts hard to find and expensive or not? It's basically missing the rear bulkhead, rear shock tower, rear diff, rear belt and spur gear/slipper assembly.
I don't want to spend a ton of money on it and wondering if it's worth restoring or if I'm better off selling it for parts?

It will likely take you a while to fully assemble it, but you may want to try to find manuals to check compatibility with other Yoke cars. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will have some idea whether for instance some of the mr 4 bx or yokomo onroad cars share parts.
I'd keep it and slowly reassemble it. It may take a year or two, but what's the rush?
Any of the later carbon yoke cars before they went composite are some of the most stunning looking rides out there.

Don't sell it for parts...rebuild it! It's a forgotten yokomo!

I think the poor yoke will go on the chopping block, I'd rather see it go to someone who will do something with it rather then let it sit in a box for years. I'd really like to rebuild it but since I have too many other projects on the go it isn't a priority. Unless I can find the parts reasonably quick or a cheap doner car it will have to go.
Finding a parts listing for the MX-4 seems impossible to locate. The manual is obtainable but useless when it comes to part numbers.

the mx4 is an awesome buggy. post up some pictures of your mx4. the manual is still available through yokomo. i'll post up the pages to the parts.

Masami's world champion 1997 car was made with a cantilevered machined aluminium bulkhead + it was his fingers that pilot the car, that made the difference

the reason they are rare is cause they were not very good at all.
unlike earlier yokos, they decided to make the entire front suspension on a separate bulkhead design, before the chassis ran underneath the bulkhead and protect it on jumps. with the MX-4 they cantilevered the entire front end off the end of the chassis. so guess what happened pretty much every time you took a table top a little nose heavy... you snapped the front bulk head just behind the kickup and at the edge of where the chassis ended.
they changed the axles from a set screw to a pin then used undersized thread and lock nuts for the axles.
the result, each time you ran the car for 4-5 minutes you would come back in with the car having 4wd, 3wd, 2wd, or 1wd. you had to load everything up with locktight just to maintain all 4 tires not losing the axle pins.
diffs had the usual contamination issues. and the belt flipping over issues getting twisted and De-laminating.
the car was a fat pig, weighed 2 much and the adjustable upper plate was a terrible idea because all it did beside acting like a tensionar was arc the lower chassis and Tweak the suspension over time.
i raced mine in 97 and gave up on it. i have it in my display cabinet left as is from the last time i cleaned it up and put it away with now all vintage radio equipement novak's first cyclone etc... After that i went back into 2wd class with a B3.

It's all a matter of opinion, I guess. If I were in this position, I would try to sell or trade it for a proper '94 or Pavidis YZ10.

I've finally got around to taking pics of the car, however, I have decided the car has to go. I don't have the time or resources to restore this one.
A good cleaning of the chassis, new fiberlyte shock towers, rear bulkhead and whatever else is missing and this would be a tidy car.

I don't have the time or resources to track down missing parts, and I'd rather focus my attention on finishing other projects that are further along. I'd rather see it go to someone who would do something with it and can use it rather then being stuffed in my closet for years.
Perfect for someone who has one with the front end written off or someone with stacks of parts stockpiled. It has brand new gold CVD's. It's not in too bad of shape and I can see the potential in it, the chassis isn't even scratched on the bottom.
