Creating this thread to document my 10 year old's (Amber) first RC build.

She's been my buggy buddy since forever...

Ordered two Classics, one for me and one for her, on pre-sale announcement day.

Spent the summer wondering if we were going to get them. Thankfully they both finally arrived once released.

Plan on starting this build with her Saturday. She is very excited about it, and of course I am too.

As far as "Daddy's" car goes, well, Daddy hasn't been able to bring himself to cut the seal on the box yet. But Amber did .

Got started today. I wanted to make sure we got past the typical 'got the front built and chickened out when we got to the 6-gear' syndrome, so the front end and transmission got done today. She's doing great.

I am reaming all of the hinge / king pin holes out with whatever bit is the next one larger than 1/8th, probably 17/64th. This works perfect. I still have to work on the actual parts fit between the knuckle and the front c-cub but it's not terrible.

Transmission went together fine, however the bag with the diff balls and plates only had 7 DIFF BALLS IN IT. Damn QC..... Definitely wasn't lost, was just never there, we dump the bags right into tall plastic tubs. I was also missing one e-clip for the front end. I must have gotten a friday afternoon kit........

Luckily I had an extra new diff ball and c-clip in my stash.

Otherwise everything has been good up to this point.

Transmission. I installed most of the e-clips, and screwed down the 8-32 aluminum screws since they're so hard to turn in the new nylon. She has done just about everything else herself. Did did want to try an e-clip, and snapped that sucker on first shot. But then decided I should do them...

We had a hard time finding that little wrench.

Wasn't with the rest of them, it was bagged separately, so we thought it was missing (after the diff ball and e-clip issues lol) and spent about 10 mins digging through my allen wrenches looking for one that small. Had none. Was about to give up when I spotted it still in another bag in the box.

When I found the wrench after saying it was time to take a creak and regroup (in 10 year old terms), Amber said "see the buggy doesn't want us to quit yet" Who was I to argue.

Snuck back out to the shop after dinner probably around 8:00 and worked on it till way past bed time . lol....

Almost a roller. She will only let me do the parts she physically cant, like driving home the 8/32's in the chassis nylon, or twisting the turnbuckles down to size, or clicking the shock seals down into position...... this will definitely be her car.

My buddy called me at 7:30am last Saturday, He couldn't find that tiny wrench
so I had to go help him find it

Great photos. I bet we all looked like that when building our first kits.

All done. Except the wing / body.... test run time today.
