Help with axles.

Ive got a special project! I need the longest possible axle shafts that fit a 5mm id bearing or bushing, and accept a regular dogbone. Not sure whats out there, as my collection is a bit limited. Wondering if rocky, scorpion or others use considerably longer axles than opt mid or lazer.

They would go for a rear end application, but theres plenty of room for the larger cup on some front axles. I need longest, like possibly a centimeter or more longer than opt mid axles. Ill get pics of what I have so far... Considering the thorp axles for high rider and double dare, but not sure of bearing size or if they fit standard kyosho type dog bones.

Thanks!

Rear of my A&L optima mid. Standard optima mid rear axle is the short one. Not sure whats in the car, but it is about 8mm longer. I need about 6-10 mm longer than that. Any suggestions?

1 cm longer than standard Optima Mid axles? I went through something just like this when I modernized my buddy's AYK Buffalo. Let me check what I got, next time I'm home.

I'd think it would be a variety of Frog / Blackfoot / Brat axle from Tamiya, if you are talking the distance from threads to bone-cup and don't really care where along the length the pin hole sits.

It's almost like the shorter the bone..the longer the axle.

Yep, re-re Frog/Brat, or rear Wild Willy 2 axles. They're cross-drilled for pins, instead of having the taper for press-fit hubs like Optima axles, so keep that in mind.

If you can find drive cups that fit 5mm id, hornet/grasshopper axles can be cut down from something like 4 inches long.

Not real picky about pin or taper drive. Those frog rear axles look good, anybody got a measurement? Regarding drive cups for 5mm shaft, wouldnt regular old optima or lazer diff drive cups be 5mm? Arg, I dont have any in front of me right now! Cutting down hornet axles might be a good option so I could make em just perfect...

I'll have to confirm but I think Thunder Tiger made a set of axles very similar to those Tamiya units. I just have to make sure of the axle diameter and dogbone fit...maybe I'll have time tonight to break out the calipers. P/N: TTRPD8967
