xx4 rebuild racer

Last week I picked up 2 xx4's off ebay. First one was a basket case. Original release with a graphite chassis. Every screw and nut was rusted, rear belt shredded. Second one was the WE, in much better shape and with a truckload of extra parts. But the LCG chassis was cracked in the front and the battery slots were "modified". So all I've done so far is swap the chassis. Downloaded all the manuals, and decided rather than throw electronics in and hit the track, I'm gonna tear it all down and rebuild it from scratch. This is gonna be a racer. Was contemplating getting a new 22-4, but decided I was gonna go vintage with the xx4. I always wanted one, and everyone I've ever known who's had one loved it. I've got enough parts to run forever, so why not? Also been eyeballing the Chinese "lipo" kit on ebay. Looks pretty sweet may give it a whirl. Also ive got a bid in on a losi lot on ebay that includes a xx4 carcass with the lcg chassis, so hopefully I win it.

Any raced XX4s will have cut battery slots.

What do you want to do? Race, slots are not a,problem.

Shelf, whatever you want.

Sweet pick up. Easily one of my favorite cars from losi I've never owned. I hope to pick one up someday! Are the bulkheads as hard to find as everyone says?

Im building one to race. The problem was the ugly modification to the slots on the original chassis. I'm actually gonna go with the first gen, since i'm gonna run lipos. The slots will serve no purpose except to catch dirt! Lol. Now that I have these other 4 incomplete cars coming in the mail, I'll prob get a few rollers together out of the bunch. I really wanna build my racer with updated parts, like 22 shocks and front arms. Ive also seen a few pics of xx4s with complete 22 mid rear ends fitted. Just trying to find some more detailed pics to work from.

I run lipo in a non slotted chassis. Velcro is all I use. Simple as that!

Yeah I test fitted one of my stick packs. It fit's snugly one the left side. I also saw a build on a losi forum where the guy mounted the servo, esc on the motor side, and a shorty lipo on the right side. Pretty trick setup actually. Same guy fitted 22 arms on the front. I need to find the link for that one I think it was on petitrc.com.

Are you using any ballast on the right side?

okay so it's been awhile... As always I forget to take pics once I'm building. So out of 4 xx4 lots purchased I was able to complete a bone stock 1st gen (sold to Ultrahive) a WE tricked out with all aftermarket parts (sold to an Australian on evilBay), and finished up my own racer as seen here...

Mods are as follows...
brand new first gen graphite chassis
white front bulkhead and rear arm mounts
cr rear hubs and arms??? (don't know what the EAE arms are)
schumacher front arms
b2 front arm brace
trinity outdrive thingies
rpm yellow cups
22 front shocks, 22t rear shocks
all new green belts
cab forward body/ j concepts wing

I still have a sl of parts, enough to keep her going forever!
future plans include fitting 22 front and rear suspensions and mod to run 22 wheels
Can't wait to get running! Was gonna go today, but lackluster ebay sellers have got me stalled on electronics...,
Gotta speed passion 8.5 and revention esc coming. Gonna run left side stick packs with 100 g of ballast on right.

I'm still cleaning the huge stack of chassis and stuff I just got. Nice to see your XX4 has come along so well.
